🚨 We decided to talk about Israel. What could possibly go wrong?

Episode 4 of The Deep End is here—and apparently we woke up and chose controversy.

What does the Bible actually mean by “Israel”?
What does it mean that Israel is God’s chosen people?
Did the Church replace Israel?
What about the land?
Was 1948 a fulfillment of biblical prophecy?
What is Zionism—and does supporting Israel mean supporting everything its government does?

To answer those questions, we somehow travel through Abraham, Jesus, Paul, Romans 11, an olive tree, 23andMe, circumcision…and Canada.

Yes. Circumcision gets considerably more airtime than anyone anticipated. 😬

But underneath all the potentially uncomfortable questions is one really important one:

Can God be trusted to keep His promises?

You may agree with everything.
You may disagree with something.
You may pause the episode and start Googling Romans 11.

Good. That’s kind of the point.

Apparently, answering the question “Where is God?” requires Eden, a burning bush, a portable tent, a giant temple, flaming swords, cherubim, the Holy Spirit… and a submarine.

Totally normal Bible study. 😂

This week on The Deep End, we’re asking:

If God is everywhere, why are some places described as having His presence?
Why could Moses talk to God but not see His face?
Why was getting too close to God occasionally… hazardous to your health?
Is the church building really “God’s house”?
And can you actually run from an omnipresent God? (Jonah gave it a shot. Results were mixed.)

We’re tracing the presence of God from Eden all the way to Revelation—and discovering that the whole story is moving toward something incredible:

God dwelling with His people again.
