Presbytery of Philadelphia

Presbytery of Philadelphia The Presbytery of Philadelphia is the oldest Presbytery in the United States and home to some of the oldest Presbyterian Churches in the nation.

The Presbytery’s history is rich both in relationship to its development during key periods of American history and in its historical location. The Presbytery Center is located at Stenton and Gowen in the Mt. Airy neighborhood with a small chapel and a large boardroom with floor to wall whiteboards, large tables, comfortable chairs, a room divider, and internet access. The furniture in the confere

nce rooms offers mobility depending on the needs of our building guests and are available for Presbyterian Churches in the Philadelphia area.

The Commission on Ministry (COM) gathered today at the Presbytery Office for its June meeting. Following the meeting, members enjoyed a time of food and fellowship at an outdoor picnic. We are grateful for the faithful work of the Commission and its care for the pastors, congregations, and ministries of our Presbytery. A special thank you to the team at Oxford Presbyterian Church for providing the tent, tables, chairs, and setup that helped make the gathering possible.

Thank you to the Synod of the Trinity for highlighting the two overtures from the Presbytery of Philadelphia that will be before the 227th General Assembly this month. We invite you to keep commissioners and advisory delegates in your prayers as they gather in Milwaukee, listening for God’s leading, discerning together, and seeking the wisdom of the Holy Spirit for the life and witness of the church.

Two overtures that will come before the 227th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in Milwaukee, WI, in late June and early July were prepared by the Presbytery of Philadelphia. One focuses on expanding healthcare options for pastors while the other seeks transparency concerning the denomination’s recent elimination of mission co-workers.

What happens when congregations step out in faith and trust God to do something new? Watch “God Makes All Things New,” a powerful story produced by the Presbyterian Foundation about the journey of New River Presbyterian Church in West Philadelphia. See how three congregations came together, embraced a shared vision, and discovered new life in ministry. This inspiring story is a reminder that God is still at work, making all things new. 👉 Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWox2FMYjb4
