What’s your favorite hymn by one of these composers?
On July 28, the Church commemorates three remarkable musicians whose work continues to enrich Christian worship: Johann Sebastian Bach, Heinrich Schütz, and George Frideric Handel.
Through cantatas, hymns, passions, oratorios, and sacred choral works, each used music to proclaim the Gospel, strengthen the faith of believers, and inspire generations to praise God.
Their lives remind us that every gift, whether expressed through music, teaching, caregiving, advocacy, or acts of compassion, can become a witness to God's love. As deaconesses and all who serve in Christ's name know, our talents are not ends in themselves. They are gifts to be shared for the good of others and the glory of God.
"Sing to God a new song; sing God's praise in the assembly of the faithful." Psalm 149:1
May our lives become songs of hope, justice, and love.
