Getting to know the Saints

Venerable Matt Talbot is renown for his work with alcoholic. An active alcoholic himself, he turned his life around commuting himself to the Lord, reading Holy Scripture, and helping others to step away from this destructive addiction. . . https://www.franciscanmedia.org/saint-of-the-day/venerable-matt-talbot/

Perhaps no one has done more to address the issue of alcoholism than Venerable Matt Talbot. An active alcoholic himself, he designed a program of support that has helped millions. Many are thankful.

This is not a healthy or desirable statistic for our State or nation. The social fabric is rupturing as families and communities are weakened.

As we approach Father's Day, it is sobering to read that here in Georgia, 46% of all live births are to unmarried mothers. This is higher than the national average, where approximately 40% of babies are born to unmarried women across the United States. While as Catholics, we're glad these children are born, it is still a national tragedy. Children have every right to expect fathers in their lives, and our society needs fathers and families.

St. Joseph Cafasso is renown for his faithful prayer life, devotion to the Eucharist, and preference for daily Mass. He often visited those in prison providing spiritual comfort and guidance. . . https://www.franciscanmedia.org/saint-of-the-day/saint-joseph-cafasso/

At a time when rigorist ideas were rampant in the seminaries of Italy, Saint Joseph Cafasso proved to be a moderate, leading the students to the best of Catholic thought without going to extremes. He also encouraged them to join the Secular Franciscans and develop a love for the Eucharist.

A big shout out to attorney Brad Hennings for his presentation to Post members last night on VA claims and support for veterans. Brad is a partner with Chisholm, Chisholm, & Kilpatrick (CCK Law) specializing in VA claims litigation. He was accompanied by Nicole Goodrich, the firm’s Community Engagement Coordinator, who provided swag to all in attendance.

In addition to Brad’s presentation, we welcomed new member Juan F and conducted a New Member Induction Ceremony, the Post’s first. Thank you to Karen and Jim Clifford for sponsoring the social afterwards.
