Louise Bowers, a devoted servant of God for decades, recently moved to the Peachtree Corners Baha’i community in mid-June as her health declined and came to live with Allison Bowers Viller, her youngest daughter, and her family.

Since the Villers currently have four in their home, they were able to surround Louise with continuous love, tenderness, and compassionate care, with the help of visits from her other children: Scott Bowers (Palo Alto, CA), Kathy Bently (Duluth, GA) and Andrea Perkins (Eatonton, GA).

During her final weeks, the family shared many smiles and many moments of laughter with Louise. She passed peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of August 6.

Below is a link to her obituary. Allison and her siblings organized a service that conveyed their love for their mother and our profound belief from the Bahá’í Faith that “death is a messenger of joy.”

If you’d like to see an example of a simple Bahá’í funeral service, there’s a link to watch at the bottom of her obituary.

The program is about 30 minutes, followed by some personal stories from family members.

Every year in November, Baha’is around the world honor unity on the Day of the Covenant.

This special Baha’i Holy Day recognizes and celebrates the appointment of Abdu’l-Baha as the Center of Baha’u’llah’s Covenant, that unbroken, unified line of guidance which safeguards the Baha’i Faith from division and disunity.

On the ninth day after Baha’u’llah reached the Ridvan (which translates to Paradise) garden, when the Tigris River had receded sufficiently from its spring flood stage, Baha’u’llah’s family and many other followers could finally cross the river by boat to join him in that Garden of Paradise. As a result, Baha’is celebrate the Ninth Day of Ridvan each year because it commemorates the unity of the human family and the great joy of Baha’u’llah’s declaration.

“It is the Festival of Riḍván, the vernal season wherein the Beauty of the All-Glorious was revealed betwixt earth and heaven. In this wondrous Day the gates of Paradise were flung open before the faces of all people, at the behest of Him Who is the All-Praised, and the outpourings of divine mercy rained down from the clouds of celestial favour upon His countless embodiments and manifestations in the world of being.”

— Bahá’u’lláh

Blessings, joy and gratitude to all those celebrating the Festival of Ridvan.

Blessings, joy and gratitude to all those celebrating the Festival of Ridvan.

At the end of April 1863, shortly before leaving the environs of Baghdad for Istanbul, Bahá’u’lláh and His companions resided for twelve days in a garden which He named Ridván, meaning “Paradise”. There, on the banks of the River Tigris, Bahá’u’lláh declared Himself to be the One heralded by the Báb—God’s Messenger to the age of humanity’s collective maturity, foretold in all the world's scriptures.

Today, Bahá'ís around the world are celebrating those special days, known as the Festival of Ridvan, with gatherings open to all.
