Was reading a post today and just wanted to share:
"This morning while out of town for softball, I chose to visit a church that wasn’t my home church. Since we were already traveling for the tournament, I decided to wear something simple and comfortable — a Jesus t-shirt, jeans, and cute sandals. Something that could pass for both church and ballfield clothes.
But when I walked in and sat down before service started, I immediately felt out of place. Everyone else looked more dressed up, and suddenly the enemy started attacking my mind. Thoughts started flooding in:
“You don’t belong here.”
“People are judging you.”
“You should’ve stayed back.”
“You’re not dressed right for church.”
And sitting there, I realized something important…that voice was not from God.
Because God never tells us to stay away from His presence over our appearance. The enemy will use insecurity, comparison, shame, fear, and even clothing to try to keep us from worship. If he can’t stop you from going, he’ll try to make you uncomfortable enough to leave.
But church was never meant to be a fashion show. It’s a place for broken people, tired people, traveling people, messy people, hurting people, growing people …people who simply need Jesus.
The truth is, God cared far more about the condition of my heart than the outfit I wore through the doors.
“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
— 1 Samuel 16:7
Maybe someone else needs this reminder today too:
Do not let the enemy convince you that you are too messy, too casual, too broken, too late, or too different to walk into church and worship God.
Show up anyway.
Worship anyway.
Pray anyway.
Sit in the presence of God anyway.
Because the enemy wants distance between you and God, but God is always inviting you closer."
