Keddem Torah Study will meet this Saturday morning, Feb 18 2023 online via Zoom from 10:30 am to noon.
This week we read the portion Mishpatim (Exodus 21:1 – 24:18) . We will take turns reading in English from any version of the Book of Numbers that you happen to have, and discuss what has been read. Our unique style blends traditional text analysis with current events; everyone has the opportunity to be a commentator.
Join us even if you have never come to a Keddem Torah Study before.
Please RSVP to [email protected] by Friday by 4:30 pm to receive Zoom connection information to join the meeting.
This meeting is open to all who are interested, but if you are not a Keddem member, in the RSVP please tell us:
Your first and last name
The name you use for your Zoom connection (if different)
Your phone number if connecting to Zoom by phone.

About the Torah Portion: Parashat Mishpatim (Exodus 21:1 – 24:18)

Imagine that you are at Sinai and have just received the Ten “Commandments.” Now in Mishpatim (meaning laws or rules) we get lots more details: laws about slaves; laws about murder; laws about theft, honoring parents, lying, evildoing, treatment of animals, and of course reminding us to treat strangers kindly because we were strangers in Egypt. Finally, there are laws about Shabbat and festivals. After all these, Moses and the people make sacrifices and declare “all the things that God has commanded we will do!” Lots and lots to discuss.
