Dear Friends,
Here is your weekend update for Sunday, June 7...
Sunday’s Scriptures: Genesis 12:1-9, Psalm 33:1-12, Romans 4:13-25, Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26… Our faith is what makes everything else happen in our relationship with God, self and neighbor.
Summer Acolyte Training: All current and prospective acolytes are invited to attend one of our summer training sessions:
• June 6 | 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
• July 18 | 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
• August 15 | 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (before Acolyte Sunday)
Training will be held in the church, with lunch provided afterward. Children only need to attend one session. Returning acolytes are encouraged to attend as serving roles may have changed. Parents are welcome to stay and observe. If you cannot attend one of these dates, alternative training can be arranged. Please contact Jason Russell, Acolyte Coordinator, to sign up or learn more.
Calling on Adults and Youth: Vacation Bible School (VBS) is coming together, but we are still missing one key position for adults: Shepherds. These are the adults who stick with the same group of kids and travel with them from station to station. That's the biggest need, but if that isn't your area, I also need another adult in Snack, Bible Story, Scripture, and Recreation (Games). College students count as adults the summer after graduation! IN ADDITION TO THAT I need youth volunteers in ALL areas. VBS isn't possible without adults, but it isn't nearly as much fun without youth, so if you or your student will be in 6-12th grade in the fall, I would love to have them as a Youth Helper this year. VBS can be so much fun and so rewarding for all involved--volunteer and camper alike.
Wednesday Bible Study – The Gospel of John: Join us Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. in June for In the Beginning: The Gospel of John, the Cosmic Christ, and Those Quarrelsome First-Century Christians, led by Brenda Hollis. Come explore John's Gospel, grow in faith, and enjoy fellowship and conversation. All are welcome!
Difficult Texts, Faithful Reading: Join Bible scholar Dr. Erica Monge-Greer for an engaging workshop on how to approach challenging passages of Scripture with faith, curiosity, and confidence. Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m. Through discussion and practical tools for Bible study, you'll gain fresh insights and deepen your understanding of God's Word. No academic background is needed. Invite a friend and come grow with us in faith and Scripture! For details and registration: scholarlywanderlust.com/difficult-texts-faithful-reading.
Lay Readers and Eucharistic Ministers Needed: Grace Church is seeking volunteers to help proclaim God’s Word and assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at our 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. services and to those who cannot come to services. Your presence helps nurture our worship and strengthens our lives together in Christ. For more information, contact Fr. Charles or the church office.
Now Hear This! We’re excited to share that Grace Church now has a new hearing amplification system called ListenWifi! Simply download the ListenWifi app on your smartphone, put in the password for our church-wifi and it will gently walk you through pairing with your phone or hearing aids for clearer sound during worship. Please give it a try and if you’d like help getting started, just ask. We’re glad you’re here, and we want you to hear every word.
