St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church

St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church St. Peter of Alcantara Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Owensboro, KY is located in Stanley, KY. The church was founded in 1873.

Mass is at 4:00 on Saturday evenings and 10:00 on Sunday mornings. The first church building of St. Peter of Alcantara in Stanley, KY was constructed in 1873. It was located on what is now Oakford Road. In the teen years of the 1900s, a temporary church was built on the current church site, 81 Church Street. In 1922, the present church was erected. The current church building was completely renova

ted in 1972. At this time, a beautiful wooden raredos was installed. This altar background still stands today. A school existed on the church property beginning in 1952. The school closed due to declining enrollment in 1984. In 2012, this school building was demolished. In 2009, a parish hall and church office was built on the property. Peter Church also has a cemetery located about 3/4 mile from the church on HWY 1554.

M-I PHOTO: Griffin Honeycutt, crossbearer, leads a local Corpus Christi procession on Sunday down East Fifth Street towards Saint Ann Street heading to Brescia University. The procession started at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church and ended at St. Stephen Cathedral. Christopher French, a diocesan seminarian with St. Stephen and the emcee of the procession, said the gathering serves as a way to "bring Christ out to the streets on this day of His holy body and blood."

There will be a dinner to celebrate with him at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 31st at Saint Augustine Catholic Church in Reed, KY. Burgers, buns, chips, dessert & drinks will be provided. Please bring your favorite toppings to stock the burger bar, no matter how bizarre or mundane you feel they are.
