Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens

Johnson County Memorial Gardens was established by the Newcomer Family in 1951 at the corner of College Blvd. & Metcalf Avenue. Newcomer and Sons Overland Park Chapel was built at the corner of 82nd and Metcalf Avenue to serve the growing Overland Park community. For decades the funeral home served families experiencing loss as the community conti

nued to grow south. Newcomer and Sons opened a state of the art funeral home and mausoleum on the cemetery grounds at College and Metcalf. The funeral home was aptly named Johnson County Funeral Chapel. Over the years the funeral chapels and memorial gardens would see 2 generations of the Newcomer family and 2 publicly traded companies own and operate the business. In May of 2014 a small, private company of funeral and cemetery professionals acquired the business and assumed operations. As part of the purchase agreement the Signature Group would not be allowed to use the Newcomer Name. The Signature Group dedicated itself to becoming the leading provider of memorial events in the area. Today the funeral chapels and memorial gardens are a community business, serving and supporting greater Johnson County and Kansas City. Through our core values of Respect for the Family, Respect for the Individual, and Respect for the Profession we have returned the business to its grass roots while also evolving to the ever changing needs of today's consumer. We serve families with quality, compassionate care, all the while creating memorial events that help begin the healing process of grief. In the spring of 2016 Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park Chapel and the Johnson County Chapel unveiled a new name for the business group. Memorial Events of Johnson County consists of the 2 chapels and memorial garden cemetery. With a staff of more than 30 dedicated and caring professionals Memorial Events of Johnson County is changing the way families memorialize and celebrate lives. Through our unique engagement with families we develop a relationship built on respect, value, care and compassion. We custom tailor events just as elaborate or simple as our clients wish. No two people are the same and nor should their life’s celebration be. We have the courage to take the hands of the families that trust in us and guide them to let the healing begin here. We invite you to visit us at one of our two locations in beautiful Overland Park, KS.
