A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 9 PM Tuesday for portions of east-central and northeast Kansas, including Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Emporia. Heat index values up to 106° are expected, and the combination of heat and humidity may lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke. If you must be outside, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water, and limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening with frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cooler place, and heat stroke is an emergency, call 911. Do not leave children or pets in unattended vehicles, as temperatures can become lethal within minutes.
