Cynthia Anestis Testo of North Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2026, at the age of 77. She was born in Gardner, Massachusetts, on June 25, 1948, to John James Anestis and Shirley Peterson Anestis.
She received a BA from the University of Connecticut, where she met her beloved husband Carl. They were married in 1970, the year she graduated from college. Cynthia loved working with children and, after raising her own children, spent many years as a preschool teacher and later as a paraprofessional at Ridge Road School in North Haven. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
Cynthia was a kind and gentle soul whose warmth, generosity, and love of family and friends touched everyone who knew her. She cherished her Greek heritage and enjoyed researching and sharing her family’s history. She was a great fan of UConn basketball and attended many games with her husband and friends throughout her life.
She treasured lunches with her friends, weekly breakfasts with John and Denise Piurek, and going to craft fairs with her granddaughters. Her family was the center of her world and she took great joy in attending her grandchildren’s events. She loved animals and owned many pets throughout her life, most recently her dog Jack, on whom she doted.
Cynthia is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl Testo; her daughters, Christina Hart (husband Richard), Lucinda Testo (husband Shannan), and Amanda Burkhart (husband Robert); her cherished grandchildren, Alana Wherry, Lexi Wherry, Julian Kuye, Carly Kuye, Emmeline Burkhart, Kinsley Burkhart, Alexandra Corona, Bromley Corona, Marshall Corona, and Ethan Roach. She is also survived by her beloved brother and sister, Peter Anestis (wife Lee), and Melissa Anestis, sisters-in-law Antonia Platt (husband Martin), Paula Testo (husband Jeff), and Joyce Anestis, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Shirley Anestis, and by her brother, James John Anestis.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, June 9, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven, Connecticut.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at 10 am at Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange, Connecticut, followed by burial at All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven, Connecticut.
