Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of this new day, for the breath in my lungs, and for Your mercies that are new every morning.
Lord, I ask for Your strength to tackle everything today brings. When I feel weary or overwhelmed, be my anchor and my peace. Grant me wisdom to make the right choices, patience with the people I meet, and discernment in my step
I surrender my worries, my plans, and the things I cannot control into Your hands. Protect my mind, my body, and my loved ones from harm today.
Guide my words so that they bring light, and let my life reflect Your goodness. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied. He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says, “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’ If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions. Matthew 22:34-46

Pastor Jim reminds us that everyone is our neighbor, even total strangers, and it is our duty to love them all as much as we love ourselves. But that's difficult, isn't it? How then is it possible? Listen to Pastor's sermon below for the answers.

What a thrill to see James back with us today, and Roger as well. We ask for prayers for William, as he recovers from a sudden illness.

15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?”
18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, 20 and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”
21 “Caesar’s,” they replied.
Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away. Matthew 22:15-22

What a special day! Our prayers were answered. Roger was back with us today after an extended absence. Welcome back friend. We were also blessed to have with us Roger's daughter, Janie's daughter, William and Jeannie's daughter and granddaughter, and Miss Effie's granddaughter. Such a pleasure and a blessing to see everyone here.

33 “Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a wall around it, dug a w**e press in it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went abroad. 34 When harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenant farmers to collect his produce. 35 But the farmers took his servants and beat one, killed another, and attacked another with stones. 36 Again, he sent other servants to them, a greater number than the first, but the tenant farmers[a] treated them the same way. 37 Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the tenant farmers saw his son, they told one another, ‘This is the heir. Come on, let’s kill him and get his inheritance!’ 39 So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. 40 Now when the owner of the vineyard returns, what will he do to those farmers?”
41 They told him, “He will put those horrible men to a horrible death. Then he will lease the vineyard to other farmers who will give him his produce at harvest time.”
42 Jesus asked them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures,
‘The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.[b]
This was the Lord’s[c] doing,
and it is amazing in our eyes.’?[d]
43 That is why I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce fruit for it. 44 The person who falls over this stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush anyone on whom it falls.”
45 When the high priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was talking about them. 46 Although they wanted to arrest him, they were afraid of the crowds, who considered Jesus[f] to be a prophet.Matthew 21:33-46

In his message today, Pastor Jim reminds us that this passage calls us to follow Jesus, to trust in God, and to give him the fruits of our lives. To give him our time. To give him our resources. To give him our talents. Because, really, it is his time, his resources, and his talents. We are mere tenants. He is the owner.

Very happy to see William on the mend and back with us today. We ask for continued prayers for Roger, as he rehabilitates at Siskin in Chattanooga.

23 When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?” 24 Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why, then, did you not believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for all regard John as a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
28 “What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 He answered, ‘I will not,’ but later he changed his mind and went. 30 The father went to the second and said the same, and he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him, and even after you saw it you did not change your minds and believe him. Matthew 21:23-32

Pastor Jim reminds us that Jesus compares the religious leaders to the second son—they talk a good game about obeying God, but do not act. The tax collectors and prostitutes are like the first son—they initially rejected God, but repented and believed when they heard John the Baptist's message. True obedience and entry into God's kingdom are proven by changed hearts and actions, not empty religious titles or polite words.

15 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Pastor Jim reminds us how wonderful the world would be if everyone followed this simple plan.

We are still praying for Roger Marsh, who has been transferred to a rehabilitation facility, James Crooks, who is resting at home after a very scary hospital visit, and William Hixon, also recuperating at home after back surgery. Please join us in offering prayers for a speedy and complete recovery for all three of these beloved gentlemen.

From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” Matthew 16:21-28

We have another friend and member in need of your paryers this morning, William Hixon is in recovery from successful back surgery and we need to pray for a speedy recovery.

Please continue to pray for Roger Marsh, he apparently had a heart attack, which was one of the issues that caused him to be admitted, and his condition is not yet stabilized.
