James (Jim) Emerson Whitehead (98) passed away in his sleep early on August 3, 2026, at Best Care Adult Center in Ocala, Florida. Jim’s quick smile and respectful way of treating others endeared him to many. A Christian Memorial Service to honor Jim and the Lord he loved will be held at Marion Landing’s Lifestyle Center, 8601 SW 65th Avenue Road, at 1:30 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Jim Whitehead was born in Pataskala, Ohio, the son of Helen Ruth (Young) Whitehead and Robert Russell Whitehead where the family had a dairy farm. Jim became the big brother to Lois Ann (Kopus), Bobbie Jean (Tebbe), and Howard (Dee) Whitehead. For a time, Jim lived with his mother’s parents and largely through them began attending church and hearing Biblical truths through sermons and songs. Throughout his life, Jim and wife Cintra created fond memories with his in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews who mourn his passing.
Jim, and his late wife Cintra, enjoyed friendships and activities living in the Marion Landing community for over twenty years. Jim faithfully showed up for social events, Tuesday morning coffees, and, because Jim had proudly served his country through the United States Air Force, he actively participated in the Veteran’s Club. He was an inspiration to those who knew him. Jim’s many interests and abilities included anything musical, writing, reading, photography, painting, and woodworking.
Prior to moving to Florida, Jim’s 28-year career with Sohio/Standard Oil began as a clerk in their spare parts store but the company soon recognized this employee was destined for larger responsibilities. He often dealt with human and labor relations and became skilled as a manager and negotiator. His last responsibilities included overseeing and ensuring the logistics, safety, and contracts for several hundred full and part-time employees required to get the Alaska pipeline up and running.
After retirement, Jim kept busy and worked for the betterment of others and animals through cultural organizations. With too much time on his hands, Jim began his 13-year employment with Lowe’s. He retired at age 90. He must have been Lowe’s most valued employee because on outings, whether for medical care or pleasure, someone would spot Jim and say, “I know you. You worked at Lowe’s.” Even Best Care’s executive director, Mark Baumann, welcomed Jim, remembering him as his Lowe’s manager.
In March 2025, after faithfully attending Bible studies and Christ Community Church, Jim publicly gave his testimony and was baptized, stating he was thankful the Lord let a 97-year-old-man come to Him for salvation. Never too old to serve, Jim cleaned tables after Sunday fellowship meals. Pastor Nathan Rice and members of Christ Community Church are assisting with the 1:30 PM memorial service in Marion Landing on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
At a later date, Jim’s inurnment next to Cintra will take place at Bushnell National Cemetery with military honors.
James E Whitehead chose Ocala Funeral and Cremation Care for making his final arrangements because Jim learned of their respect for veterans.
