Oaks Indian Mission

Oaks Indian Mission 501(c)(3), residential childcare facility licensed by Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Because walking together is better than walking alone.

The Oaks Indian Mission has roots which run deep into the history of the Cherokee Nation. Officially, the Mission began in 1801, when the tribe invited Moravian missionaries to open a school in Georgia, a few miles from the seat of the Cherokee government. This school would prepare many of the tribe's leaders in the decades following. When the Cherokee were forced to leave their homes and relocate

in Indian Territory, the missionaries left their homes as well, choosing to travel the same "Trail of Tears", reestablishing the mission at what is now Oaks, OK. One of the first school bells to ring in Indian Territory rang there in 1842. In 1902, Oaks Indian Mission became a Lutheran ministry. A residential home for Indian children opened its doors in 1926. This long legacy of quality education and spiritual formation is at the heart of what still makes Oaks Indian Mission a special place for children and the shaping of their future.

🌸 Little hands, big smiles! 🌸

Our littles on campus had a wonderful time creating handprint flowers. These special masterpieces are a sweet reminder that every child blooms in their own unique way. 🌼💛

We love watching their creativity grow and seeing the joy they bring to our campus each day!

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. 🇺🇸

At Oaks Indian Mission, we are grateful for the sacrifices made by so many who served our country with courage and selflessness. Their legacy reminds us of the importance of love, service, and caring for one another.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we never forget those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy each day.

Camp Bandage in Broken Arrow was such an incredible experience for our kids! 💛

It was a hands-on day full of learning, laughter, and real-life skills as they got to explore basic first aid, safety, and how to help care for others in emergency situations. The kids were fully engaged, asking questions, practicing new skills, and soaking up every moment.

We are so thankful for the time, effort, and heart that went into making this event possible. Opportunities like this don’t just teach skills, they build confidence, awareness, and compassion that our kids can carry with them long after the day is over.

A truly meaningful day in Broken Arrow that we won’t forget! 💙

The kids had the best Saturday at the Strawberry Festival in Stilwell! 🍓

From the smiles to the laughter, the day was filled with so much joy, sweet treats, and memories made that we’ll be talking about for a long time. Watching them explore, enjoy the festivities, and just be kids was such a blessing.

What a beautiful day in Stilwell!

Our Boys had the opportunity to visit Har-Ber Village Museum to kick off the first day of summer break, and what a wonderful day it was!

From exploring history and learning about life in the past to sharing laughs and making memories together in the present, it was a day full of learning, joy, and connection. Experiences like these help our children grow, dream, and appreciate the stories that came before them while creating stories of their own.

We are so thankful for moments like this and for everyone who helps make opportunities like these possible for our kids. ❤️

Today we woke up to cloudy skies, but little by little the sun is starting to shine through, and it’s turning into a beautiful day. ☀️ Sometimes life feels the same way. The storms may linger for a moment, but God’s light always finds a way through the clouds.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23 🙏

Wednesday Prayer:
Lord, thank You for another day and for the reminder that even after the darkest clouds, your light still shines. Bless our children, staff, families, and supporters today with peace, strength, and hope. Guide our steps and let us be a light to those around us. Amen. ❤️

You did it, Damian! 🎓

You walked across that stage, and all of us here at OIM couldn’t be more proud of you. What a ride it has been watching you grow over these last 6 years. Your OIM family has loved seeing the young man you have become, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.

As you begin this next chapter, always remember there is a whole big world out there waiting for you, and you can be and do anything you set your mind to. Keep chasing your dreams, working hard, and believing in yourself.

Know that you will always have your OIM family rooting for you. Go do big things and continue spreading the word and love you have for the Lord wherever life takes you.

Our prayer for you is that God guides your steps, gives you strength in every challenge, and blesses you with wisdom, peace, and purpose in all you do. May you always walk confidently in His plan for your life.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

We loved hosting the teachers and 6th grade students from Lincoln Middle School at The Museum last week! Thank you for coming to tour the campus, explore the grounds, and enjoy a picnic.

It was wonderful watching the students take in the history, ask so many thoughtful questions, and truly engage with the stories and artifacts around them. Their curiosity and enthusiasm made the day extra special!

We appreciate your visit and hope to welcome you back again soon, thank you for spending the day with us!

Ashley and Dan have been on the road these past few weeks, attending the Rocky Mountain Synod Assembly and, most recently, the Arkansas/Oklahoma Synod Assembly.

It has been such a blessing for them to share about the work taking place here at Oaks Indian Mission, reconnect with familiar faces, meet new friends, and witness the strong community of faith that continues to support this ministry.

We are always encouraged by these opportunities to come together, uplift one another, and be reminded that we are all part of something bigger—serving God’s purpose together.

As it says in Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… but encouraging one another.”
