Everybody needs mentorship to reach their full potential, but you cannot be properly mentored by insecure people!
The Bible tells us in 1 Samuel 18 that when the women began singing, “Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands,” something shifted in Saul's heart. The very man who should have been developing David became threatened by David's greatness. Instead of celebrating him, Saul threw a javelin at him! Why? Because insecure leaders often see your potential as a threat rather than the fruit of their investment. Saul had failed to fulfill God's calling upon his own life, and now he was intimidated by what God was doing through David. Be careful who you allow to mentor you, because an insecure mentor will sometimes attack the very greatness they were supposed to develop! A true mentor doesn't compete with your calling; they cultivate it. Real mentorship is not threatened when the student becomes greater than the teacher!

I'm truly honored and excited to be one of the mentors and presenters at tomorrow's A2I (Alternative 2 Incarceration) Finisher Program right here in East Oakland! It's always a blessing to have the opportunity to pour into the lives of our young men and help them recognize that their past does not have to determine their future. I'll be speaking on the power of accountability, mentorship, coaching, and discipleship, because I believe every young man needs someone who will not only encourage him to reach his potential but also challenge him to take responsibility for his decisions and his destiny. Accountability is not about holding someone down; it's about helping them rise up! I'm grateful to stand alongside other committed brothers who believe in building stronger men, stronger families, and stronger communities. We're not just talking about change; we're investing in the next generation of leaders! BE A FINISHER. CHANGE A LIFE!
