Unifour Church

Unifour Church Unifour Church is an LGBTQ+ affirming, Spirit-filled congregation in Newton, NC. All are welcome no matter your story.

Since 1996, Unifour Church has been a beacon of God’s love for the community surrounding Catawba County. Our History

A small group of people were hungry for fellowship, faith, and God’s unconditional love. They began to meet in a home to pray, study the bible, and share their faith. In a few weeks, others joined the movement of love. A conference room at Gateway Conference Center, Hickory, NC was

rented and regular services were held. It was a true grassroots effort led by people hungry for worship and love. After six months, wisdom guided them to contact a minister in another town to help them organize. He provided guidance that helped them to become a non-profit church registered with the state of North Carolina. From a handful of folks in a home, this movement was established on September 15, 1996, with 21 members. The movement of love adapted the name “Unifour Christian Fellowship Church” (Unifour Church). Unifour Church gets its name from the geographical name of the four-county area that surrounds the church. Continuing to draw people from the surrounding areas, the church moved to a building on HWY 70 in Hickory. In 2001, with over 100 members, the church prayed and purchased 7 acres in Newton, NC. The church campus now stands on this property. Included in the purchase was a house that serves as our parsonage. In 2004, we built a 4400-square-foot sanctuary and fellowship hall. And all of us will say we do mean “we” built the current structure. Without a pastor, once again our body demonstrated this was a grassroots effort of love. On October 17, 2021, we called our current Senior Pastor, The Reverend Leo Morton. We remain committed to sharing God’s love with everyone and reaching far beyond the walls of our building. We have an ADA compliant playground which serves as a wonderful addition to our thriving Parents Day Out Ministry and Girl Scouts Troop that meets on site and is also open to for the publics use as well. We recently fenced in dog park area that is located beside the playground it is open for members and public use. We celebrate the faithfulness of our members in that endeavor and continue the story of sharing God’s inclusive love with everyone, no matter their story. Today, Unifour Church is a vibrant church that offers a mix of contemporary worship style, with a twist of traditional music. We offer a wonderful children’s program under the direction of April Herron, the Children’s Ministry Coordinator that includes Children’s Church, a Girl Scout Troop, Vacation Bible School and Parent’s Day Out Ministry. We also started a Teen Ministry called Wildfire 226 under the direction of Dylan Blevins, the Teens Ministry Coordinator. We offer a Coffee Fellowship time at 10:00 AM, and Worship Service begins at 10:30 AM. Come test out our hospitality and see why Unifour is the place to be.

On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave women and men who gave their lives in service to this nation. We honor their sacrifice, their courage, and the families who continue to carry both pride and grief.

As a pastor, I believe remembrance is sacred work. We remember not only the names etched into monuments, but the human stories behind them — the dreams interrupted, the futures surrendered, the lives laid down for others.

We also acknowledge the countless LGBTQ+ service members who have faithfully served this country, often while carrying the additional burden of hiding who they were, fighting for acceptance, or standing in the tension between service and exclusion. Their courage deserves remembrance too.

At Unifour Church, we give thanks for all who served with honor, integrity, and sacrifice. Today, may we choose gratitude over division, compassion over rhetoric, and remembrance over forgetting.

May God comfort the grieving, strengthen those who still serve, and remind us all that freedom is never free.

— Rev. Leo Jones-Morton

🌮✨ Celebrating Faith, Community & Joy this Cinco de Mayo! ✨🌮

Today is a beautiful reminder of culture, resilience, and the strength found in unity. As we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, we also celebrate the goodness of God that brings people together from every background, story, and walk of life.

Scripture reminds us:

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” — Psalm 133:1 (NIV)

At Unifour Church, we believe that unity doesn’t mean sameness—it means making space for everyone at the table. 💛

No matter your story, your journey, or where you come from—you belong here.

As you enjoy today’s celebrations, may you be filled with joy, gratitude, and the reminder that God’s love connects us all.
