On this day in 1967, the Six-Day War broke out, marking a pivotal moment in the history of Israel and the region. In the weeks leading up to the war, 3 Arab armies, Egypt, Jordan and Syria, with support from Lebanon and Iraq, gathered near Israel's borders and threatened to wipe the tiny Jewish state off the map, forcing Israel to respond swiftly in order to protect its civilians and its territory. Israel was victorious, and the war resulted in the reunification of the Jewish people's holiest city, Jerusalem.
Today, we remember those who fought for Israel's safety and security during that historic week in 1967.
