Saturday mornings at Bridging the Gap are about more than providing food—they’re also about building relationships and creating meaningful connections. Taking the time to sit with our clients, share a meal, offer encouragement, and simply be present can make such a lasting impact.

We are so grateful to Summer Hill Baptist for showing up, serving with love, and reminding our clients that they are seen, valued, and supported. This is what community is all about! 🙏💙

Rejected, but Not Denied!

Georgia Tech told a young Black man from Atlanta that he "did not fit the Tech model for success." He went and became their first Black graduate anyway. 🎓

Ronald Yancey applied in 1961 and got rejected. He applied again alongside fifteen other Black students, all of them rejected. His mother went to see the registrar in person and got told he simply was not Tech material. So he did two years at Morehouse, applied a third time, and finally got in on conditions nobody white was being handed. Once he was there they made sure it was miserable. No lab partner. Nobody to sit with. He wrote every assignment in ink so no one could accuse him of changing his answers. 🖊️

Seniors at Tech were excused from finals. They made Yancey sit eighteen exams anyway. He passed all of it and walked across that stage in 1965, the first Black graduate in the school's history. "Not Tech material" turned into a Tech diploma and a whole engineering career. Had you ever heard Ronald Yancey's name before today?
