So very grateful...

I look at this picture every year on Memorial Day and the older I get, the more deeply I feel it.

- The freedom to publicly preach Christ
- The children I'll laugh with today
- The vacation I will enjoy with Jana later this summer
- The life we've been blessed to build together
.. all enabled by young men and women who did not get to enjoy them, so that you and I could.

And they were YOUNG. Ronald Reagan put this in striking perspective:

“It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country, in defense of us, in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives—the one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men. They gave up everything for our country, for us. And all we can do is remember.”

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every family who sacrificed a loved one so that we could enjoy our loved ones today.

"Greater love has no man than this; that someone lay down his life for his friends."
– John 15:3

It’s a solemn day of remembrance. Keep those who have paid the ultimate price in your mind today, and thank God for the selflessness they showed on our behalf.

Today, as we celebrate Pentecost in the life of the Church, may we remember that the same Holy Spirit who empowered the ordinary people of the early Church is still alive and at work among us today.

Today is also Aldersgate Day, a reminder that hearts are still being strangely warmed by the grace and presence of God.

May the Holy Spirit continue to move in our hearts, renewing us with passion, courage, and compassion to share the hope of Christ as we seek to reach every nation, tribe, and people group.

Great article ... further highlighting our focus this week!
"Can you imagine if every GMC congregation ‘adopted’ an unreached people group and committed to praying regularly for them? God’s Word tells us the harvest is ready. Over time and through the power of the Holy Spirit, the names of these UPGs would need to be removed from the Wall!"

Why is the Unreached People Group (UPG) Wall Showing Up Around the World?
Do you know that there are over 7000 unreached people groups around the world?

An unreached people group is a people group among which there is no indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelize the people group without outside assistance. It is measured by having less than or equal to 2% Evangelical Christians, and less than or equal to 5% Christian adherents throughout the population.

TODAY'S SNIPPET: God is bringing the nations to us. They are flooding our universities and cities. They are searching for hope. We have been given an amazing opportunity to impact the nations for Jesus, and we don’t even need to buy a plane ticket to do it! The question is do we recognize the significance of what God is doing, and are we making space for the nations to worship with us?

Day 4: as we Journey to Pentecost highlighting people groups unreached by the gospel. www.journeytopentecost.org

TODAY'S FOCUS: Prayer for Animist Peoples
Population: 300 million
World A: 70% without an active gospel witness
People Groups: 3000+

Missionaries Needed: 6,000+

TODAY'S SNIPPET: Why are there still places and peoples today who have never heard the gospel? Simply put, we are not asking. We are not praying as Scripture exhorts us. God says “Ask of me and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession” (Ps 2:8).

Surveys indicate that many believers have a very limited prayer life. It is perhaps one of the greatest limitations to our spiritual formation and maturity. But in areas of persecution, or during times of revival, this begins to change. The deeper we get in God’s presence the more we are moved to pray. In this way, prayer acts like a spiritual thermometer. Ask a church about their prayer meetings and you can know exactly where that church is headed.

TODAY'S FOCUS: Buddhist Peoples - Please PRAY!
Population: 500 million
World A: 70% without an active gospel witness
People Groups: 700+
Major Locations: East Asia, South Asia
Missionaries Needed: 6,000+

TODAY'S SNIPPET: The first short term mission trip in Christian history happens in John 4. Jesus takes his new disciples into Samaria, and we witness the first major breakthrough for the gospel. Samaria was way outside of the comfort zone for the disciples.

God involves us in mission, in part, because missions is the best thing for us. The gospel is designed to reconcile us to God and to one another. In fact, the latter is the best demonstration that the former has occurred. Reconciliation is the proof of God’s mission, and it is the driver that advances it forward.

Today some of the fastest growing movements for the gospel are in places with the heaviest persecution of Christians. When we are violently opposed, we may be tempted to ask– “If they don’t want us there, why bother?” But the truth is this—resistance from those in power always means Satan is trying to hide something. We have to call his bluff. For where the darkness is greatest, God’s love shines the brightest.

TODAY'S SNIPPET: God is the initiator – he intends to multiply encounters between his people and lost people wherever they are found. For some, he may call us to leave family and country behind like Abraham. For others, he may call us to simply cross the street and pray for our neighbors who need God’s love.
