What happens when the words, “You have a mental illness,” become part of your story?

In this Help & Hope conversation, Christine Chappell shares her journey with bipolar disorder, depression, and self-harm—and how finding her identity in Christ brought hope in the midst of fear, uncertainty, and despair.

If you or someone you love is navigating a mental health diagnosis, this conversation offers biblical encouragement, practical wisdom, and a reminder that a diagnosis does not define your identity.

Where do people turn when they can't find an answer to their struggle?

In this clip, Mike speaks to a reality that many families know all too well. When people feel hopeless, they'll search everywhere for relief, identity, purpose, and freedom.

His conviction is simple: true hope is found in Christ alone.

That doesn't mean struggles disappear overnight. It means we don't walk through them alone.

Whether someone is battling addiction, supporting a loved one, or searching for answers themselves, the call of the Church is not to have all the answers, but to faithfully walk alongside people while pointing them to Jesus.

That's why equipping the Church matters.

The Help & Hope Conference exists to help churches, leaders, and families respond to addiction with biblical truth, compassion, and Gospel-centered hope.

So, after sitting quietly for a while through this discussion, I decided to bring Jesus into the conversation to lend a rightly needed perspective. I asked, Can you imagine how Jesus felt after facing twenty-four hours of emotional hell? Think about this: A follower and friend betrayed him — and with a kiss. His best friend denied him three times, and his other friends deserted him.

Not grief. Not fear. Not pain. Nothing can separate you from His love.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God never asks you to carry your burdens alone.

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

How do you help someone struggling with addiction without becoming controlled by fear?

In this clip, Mike offers a practical and thought-provoking perspective on trust, boundaries, and ministry.

Too often, fear keeps us from engaging people who are struggling. We've heard the stories. We've been burned before. We know the risks.

But ministry has always involved risk.

The challenge isn't whether wisdom and boundaries are necessary; they are. The challenge is learning how to love people well without allowing fear to close the door on them entirely.

Helping someone in addiction requires both grace and discernment. Open hands and healthy boundaries.

That's a balance many churches and families are trying to navigate today.

The Help & Hope Conference exists to help equip churches and leaders with biblical wisdom for walking alongside those impacted by addiction.

The pain is unimaginable, and the grief is often carried in silence. Unlike other losses, this kind of death is too often placed in a separate, quieter category—one that can feel isolating and heavy with unspoken judgment... The crisis is silent. It is swift. It is ruthless.

Your help does not come from circumstances—it comes from God.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
-Psalm 121:1–2
