Prison Ministries of Delaware: 2014 Key Accomplishments

The Prison Ministries of Delaware, Inc, (PMoD) supported by First Presbyterian Church
of Newark, actively continued its work ministering to presently and formerly incarcerated
men and women in Delaware, promoting spiritual growth, reducing recidivism,
increasing public awareness, and bringing about shalom/salaam throughout Delaware.

Prison Fellowship Curriculum Mentoring Training was held in Dover in the spring and in
Newark in the fall. PMoD mentors walked with mentees during their initial and/or
challenging days after being incarcerated.

The PMoD Emergency Fund was used throughout the year to house ex-offenders for a
week or two. The PMoD directed men and women to transitional homes after their
release and during seasons of hardships.

The PMoD Annual Cookie Pack event on Dec 3, 2014, provided about 70,000 homemade
cookies for residents of penal institutions in Delaware to brighten their Christmas season.

The “Welcome Back Pack Project” filled backpacks with essentials to enable ex-inmates
to begin the reentry journey knowing someone cares and also to provide toiletries, etc.,
that make the first few days much easier. Thirty backpacks were sent to Baylor Prison
and Howard R. Young Correction Facility

A planning meeting was held for a Spring Symposium on Reducing Recidivism (Oct 23,
2014). Topics included “Progress Through Partnerships” and the “Importance of
Building Partnerships.

Dear Prison Ministries of Delaware Family,

It is with great sadness that we are writing with the news that our beloved board member and friend, Edward Koffenberger, passed away this past weekend. He passed away while fighting with his health. We speak on behalf of all past board members and present of the Prison Ministries of Delaware in offering our deep condolences to the Edward Koffenberger family.

Board Member Edward Koffenberger was a faithful figure and back bone in Prison Ministries of Delaware and in the community. He served his generation and ours well! His heart for our organization was unparalleled and demonstrated for his decades of support for those incarcerated as well as our clients when they are released. All of us honor his memory by continuing the journey and ministering to the least of these.

We will send you information about memorial services as soon as it’s available.

With deep respect,
Kevin Kelley

"Crime is fundamentally a violation of people and interpersonal relationships...the community's obligations are to the victims and offenders - to help victims to meet their needs, to help offenders reintegrate into their community, knowing their obligations and to make amends...justice offers the exchange of information...justice draws from the community resources and in turn to the strengthening and rebuilding of the community." - Howard Zehr "The Little Book of Restorative Justice"
