Juneteenth marks the moment in American history when freedom was finally declared to those who had been enslaved, an announcement of liberation, dignity, and a new beginning. It’s a reminder that freedom delayed is still freedom promised, and that justice, though sometimes slow, can break through and change everything.
The individuals pictured here, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and Abraham Lincoln each in their own way pointed toward a world shaped by freedom and justice. Their stories reflect what can happen when courage confronts oppression and hope refuses to die.
And in that same spirit, Juneteenth also points us to a deeper truth: the freedom we celebrate in history is a picture of the freedom we are offered in Christ. Freedom from sin, bo***ge, and anything that tries to hold us back. This is what life can look like when people step into the freedom they’ve been given, whole, restored, and walking in new life together.
