Single. Married. Widowed. Your relationship status does not determine your purpose.

In 1 Corinthians 7:32–40, Paul reminds us that our greatest calling isn’t to pursue marriage or avoid it—it’s to pursue Jesus.

Whether you’re single, married, or widowed, your life is meant to be marked by wholehearted devotion to the Lord.

Marriage is a beautiful gift from God, but it also brings real responsibilities. Singleness is also a gift, providing unique opportunities to serve Christ with fewer distractions. Neither is superior in value before God. The question isn’t, “Am I married?” but rather, “Am I fully devoted to Christ?”

Key Takeaways:
• Your identity is found in Christ, not your relationship status.
• Marriage and singleness are both gifts to be stewarded for God’s glory.
• Every Christian is called to seek God’s Kingdom above all else.
• A life fully devoted to Jesus is never wasted.

“The Christian is called to live a life of full devotion to the Lord, regardless of his or her relational status. God’s kingdom is our priority.”

Our culture often teaches us to find our identity, worth and fulfillment in our relationship status. But Scripture challenges us to rethink both singleness and marriage.

Marriage is a gift. Singleness is a gift. Both have blessings, responsibilities and difficulties. Most importantly, neither determines your worth or your usefulness in God’s kingdom.

The time is limited, and this world in its current form is passing away. Whether you are single, married or desire to be married, make the most of your life right where God has placed you.

Seek God’s kingdom more than marriage, the right spouse or the fulfillment you believe you are missing.

Are you fully devoted to serving Jesus where God has you today?
