- Parish History -

St. Pius X Parish includes territory that was originally part of three parishes: Our lady of the Rosary, St. Frances Cabrini. The Lake Vista area was a mission of Holy Rosary wit

h Mass being offered each Sunday in the Community Center from 1949 until 1952, when Bishop P. Abel Caillouet, pastor of Holy Rosary, contracted to build a combined auditorium/classroom building. Completed in 1953, this new building became the church, school and rectory for a new parish established in September 1953, with Father Michael Killoughey as pastor. The Lakeshore area, which had been part of the St. Dominic parish, and the Lake Terrace area, which had been part of St. Frances Cabrini, were added to Lake Vista to comprise St. Pius. The new parish school was opened in September 1953 with another school building added in 1956. The parish rectory was built in 1955. Father Killoughey was succeeded as pastor by Msgr. Arthur T. Screen. Msgr. Screen was succeeded by Msgr. Clinton J. Doskey. Our current pastor is the Very Reverend Pat Williams. The permanent parish church was dedicated by Archbishop Phillip Hannan on May 1, 1966.

It was a great week for sports at St. Pius X!

Our JV and Varsity volleyball teams got things started with a scrimmage against St. Catherine of Siena School. Thank you to St. Catherine for some great volleyball and a fun afternoon on the court! 🏐

Then it was time to hit the course for the first cross country race of the season! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Our Panthers competed in the Battle for New Orleans at LSUNO, officially getting the season underway! 💙

Here’s to a great season ahead for all of our Panther athletes! Let’s go, Panthers! 🐾💙

Our 6-L students had the honor of leading this week’s SPX School Mass. Together, we reflected on the call to “Restore all things in Christ,” the motto and mission of St. Pius X.

A beautiful reminder that, as a school and community, we are all called to live our faith and bring Christ into all that we do.

Yesterday our 5th grade students attended the first ever SPX 5th grade retreat! Our theme for the retreat was “Journeying Together” where we learned what it means to journey through middle school with Jesus, our friends, and our Mother Mary. We started the day joined together at Mass, had fellowship at Rock-N-Bowl, and then ended our day with a rosary with Mrs. Morel! Truly an amazing day ❤️

Behind the scenes here at St. Pius X we are already hard at work getting everything ready for one of our favorite traditions of the year. From planning and organizing to all the little details that make the day so special, there’s a lot happening to bring Fall Fest to life! 🐾

And the best part? It takes our whole community to make Fall Fest the success it is. We’re so grateful for the families, volunteers, faculty, staff, and supporters who continue to show up and make this event such a special part of the SPX tradition.

Each week, one of our classes has the special opportunity to lead our school Mass, and our 7th graders had the honor of leading us in our first school Mass of the 2026-2027 school year.

Our students, faculty, and everyone gathered for Mass joined together in the Prayer of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, making for a beautiful and meaningful start to our school Masses this year.

Fr. Jonathan closed the celebration by reflecting on how wonderful it was to be back together as a community. After a summer apart, being together again felt like we had never been away.
