Happy Feast Day of St. Gianna Beretta Molla!

Gianna, born outside of Milan, Italy, was a pediatrician, wife, and mother of four. During her final pregnancy, doctors discovered she had a tumor in her uterus. She allowed the surgeons to remove the tumor, but she refused to receive a complete hysterectomy that was recommended to her, which would have ended the life of her child. She pleaded with the surgeon to do whatever it takes to save the life of her child in the womb and she entrusted herself to prayer and providence. She said, "If you must decide between me and the child, do not hesitate: choose the child, I insist in it." Seven months later on April 21, 1962, her fourth child, Gianna Emanuela, was born! However, Gianna Beretta Molla suffered post-operative complications resulting in an infection and seven days later, amid a lot of pain and repeated exclamations of "Jesus, I love you," she died. St. Gianna was ready to give her life in order to save her child. For this, she is a primary patroness for the pro-life movement and a patron of unborn children. St. Gianna is also the patron saint of mothers and physicians and pediatricians.

Happy Feast of Saint Joseph!

Saint Joseph is the husband of Mary and the foster father of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On today's Solemnity, what is also known as Saint Joseph's Day especially in New Orleans, the Sicilian-Italian community celebrates the feast of St. Joseph to commemorate how the saint's intercession helped save the people of Sicily from a terrible drought and famine. It is tradition to set up a St. Joseph's Table, an altar with special foods, flowers, decor, and devotional items as a way to express thanksgiving for the miracle in Sicily.

Visit your local New Orleans Catholic church today to view a beautiful St. Joseph's Altar!

San Giuseppe, prega per noi!
