This picture is a clear and sobering reminder of what the love of God accomplished at the cross.

The firestorm represents the judgment our sins deserve.
And the cross shows us something astonishing.

Jesus stepped into the place where we deserve to stand.
The wrath of God against sin did not disappear.
It was absorbed.
By him.

The Bible describes it like this: “In this is love, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 4:10)

Propitiation means Jesus became the wrath-absorbing sacrifice for us.

The judgment that should fall on us fell on Christ instead.

That’s why the Bible can say something so shocking:
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

The cross is where the love of God and the justice of God meet.

We had a wonderful week!! Three young men from West Lutheran High School and their chaperone, Pastor Isaac Cherney, joined us this week in going door to door to tell our neighbors about the Gospel of Jesus and Crown of Life. All of this work culminated in a wonderful event on Saturday. Games, animals, singing, crafts, food, and best of all, we learned about Jesus! (Videos in the comments)

Dear friends in Christ,

Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening, leaving many dead, thousands missing, and countless others without homes.

I am in communication with our missionaries, who have many contacts in Venezuela. They are working to assess the situation and determine how we may be able to assist. I will share additional information and opportunities to help as they become available.

In the meantime, please join me in prayer:

Lord God, our refuge and strength, we commend to your mercy all those affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela. Comfort those who mourn, protect those who are in danger, heal the injured, and provide for all who have lost homes or livelihoods.

Move your people to show Christian love through acts of mercy and compassion. Bless the efforts of relief workers and all who seek to help those in need. Above all, grant that those who suffer may find hope and peace in your Son, Jesus Christ, who has overcome sin, death, and every earthly trouble.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
