Two BIG WINS in New Albany!
#1 For the first time, the Cooling Center program will receive funds awarded by the City Council, expanding access to the life-saving program.
#2 The previous phase-out of the Community Corner food pantry has been suspended and the library board will now partner with the community to put a plan in place so food distribution is not disrupted.

The year is 1971, and the Rev. Jesse Jackson has just been arrested. Jackson, serving as national director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Operation Breadbasket, is seen offering a clenched fist salute from a police van after he and 11 other clergymen were arrested at the national offices of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P).

This single image captures more than an arrest. It reflects the Rev. Jesse Jackson's commitment to following in Christ's footsteps by advocating for those who have been pushed to the margins. Rev. Jackson's witness constantly reminded us that the church should be on the frontlines of the justice movement, working to bring about God's vision of a just and equitable world.

The PC(USA) mourns the loss of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and we vow to remain committed to the work he stood for: justice, equity, and inclusion for all God's children.
