Time Passages
The melodic and reflective song “Time Passages” by Al Stewart got a lot of play to and from my trips to Spring Arbor University years ago. By definition time refers to a measurable quantity of minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years.
It’s amazing how quickly days become weeks, weeks become months, and months become years. You look back and wonder, “Where has the time gone?”
I have reflected back on some of the churches I have served. Places I learned about fishing, hymn sings, agriculture, sawmills, Hoosier basketball hysteria, and about the hardworking, close-knit people of small-town rural communities. Thankfully, my first church I served in English, IN has now doubled in size, has added an addition, and seems thriving.
Remembering can bring both happiness and longing. As Al Stewart wrote, “Well just now and then your line gets caught in these time passages.” He was right when he wrote, “The days go too slow, and the years too fast… years go falling in the fading light, buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight.” May God be with you as fondly remember the days gone past, as you linger in the days you are in, and as you bravely look forward to the days ahead. God was and is present in all of them.
God Bless,
Pastor Kent
