They knew the Law inside and out, but they completely missed the heart of God. 💔
In Acts 7, the Sanhedrin (the highest religious court) sat face-to-face with Stephen. They were the theological elites of their day—men who memorized scripture, guarded traditions, and fiercely defended their doctrine. Yet, when Stephen spoke the truth, they didn't respond with love or correction. They gnashed their teeth, covered their ears, and dragged him out to be stoned.
As the rocks fell, Stephen looked up to heaven and prayed for his killers: "Lord, do not hold this sin against them."
What a sobering contrast. The religious leaders had perfect doctrine, but their hearts were filled with murder. Stephen had the Holy Spirit, and his heart was filled with Christlike love.
You can have a heart full of doctrine, but a heart empty of love. Let’s never let our knowledge of God outgrow our love for people. 🙌✨
