Monday Night Sangha 🌿
May 25 | 6–7:30pm
With guest teacher Dennis Warren

Equanimity is one of the most important qualities in Buddhist practice. It is also one of the most misunderstood.

Is it distance? Detachment? A kind of spiritual numbness? Dennis Warren joins us this Monday to explore what equanimity actually is, and the unique form of happiness that comes with it. Not a retreat from life, but a way of meeting it fully, without being swept away.

Guiding teacher Adam Stonebraker will be in person this week. Come join us.

All are welcome. Come early for tea and community.

The Dharma of Recovery 🌿
A Two-Day Non-Residential Retreat
Saturday & Sunday, June 6 & 7 | 10am to 4:30pm
With Kevin Griffin and Karson Koshin

The Four Noble Truths begin with the truth of suffering. Recovery begins there too.

Join Kevin Griffin and Karson Koshin for a weekend retreat exploring how the Buddha’s core teachings speak directly to the suffering of addiction and the possibility of freedom. Through dharma talks, meditation, reflection, and group inquiry, we’ll investigate craving, suffering, ethical living, healing, and awakening as they unfold in recovery.

This retreat is open to anyone interested in bringing Buddhist wisdom and practice to the path of recovery. Come for one day or the full weekend.

📍 Nevada City Insight Center, 710 Zion St, Nevada City CA

Sliding scale pricing and scholarships available.

Some practices are simple enough to begin today. This is one of them.

Muditā isn’t a feeling we wait for. It’s something we can consciously cultivate, moment by moment, beauty by beauty, until the boundary between our own joy and the joy of others starts to feel less solid.

Muditā in the deeper sense doesn’t require an object at all. It is the natural brightness of awareness when the heart is not contracted around lack.

This is what our practice continues pointing toward. Not a feeling we generate, but one we uncover when the clinging stops.

Monday Night Sangha 🌿
May 18 | 6–7:30pm
With guest teacher Maeve Hassett

Not striving. Not forcing. Not giving up. Just this: a willingness to meet what is here.

Maeve Hassett joins us this Monday to explore willingness as a practice and a way of being. What opens in us when we stop demanding that things be different, and simply turn toward what is?

All are welcome. Come early for tea and community.

Daylong Retreat with Maeve Hassett 🌿
Embracing Impermanence: A Buddhist Journey to Graceful Aging
Saturday, May 16 | 10am to 4pm
Nevada City Insight Center

Aging is not only a loss. It is also an invitation: to reflect, to release, to meet life with greater clarity and grace.

Rooted in Buddhist teachings on impermanence, non-attachment, and compassion, this daylong offers a genuine practice container for exploring what it means to grow older with wisdom and an open heart. Through guided meditation, reflection, and group discussion, we’ll look honestly at the physical, emotional, and existential changes that come with time, and discover what becomes possible when we stop fighting them.

Maeve Hassett has been teaching and studying Buddhism for nearly 30 years and has been part of the Mountain Stream community since 2004. She brings deep experience as both a dharma teacher and a retired psychotherapist.

All levels welcome. Open heart required.

📍 Nevada City Insight Center, 710 Zion St, Nevada City CA
In person only. Pre-registration encouraged by noon Friday, May 15.

Muditā is the third of the four brahmavihārās, usually translated as sympathetic joy. Appreciative joy gets a little closer.

At its heart: the capacity to feel genuine gladness when life goes well for someone else. Not because of what they did or whether we agree with their choices. Just joy, moving freely, not needing to be owned or controlled.

Impersonal and innate. Intimate and particular. Woven into all of relational life.
