The giving period for our Presbytery’s ministry to remove medical debt concludes on Sunday, October 20. Medical debt is remarkably easy to acquire. Get sick, receive a cancer diagnosis, be involved in an accident or go to the emergency room and you can be faced with a medical bill you cannot pay. Those struggling to pay a medical bill suffer both physically and emotionally. Many no longer see a doctor for their illness or go to regular checkups. They may stop taking their medications as prescribed. Worry, stress and anxiety take over their lives. Perhaps worst of all, they lose hope. Almost half of people with medical debt don’t think they will ever be able to pay it off.
All these things can be undone and it starts when a family receives a yellow envelope in the mail from our mission partner, Undue Medical Debt. When they read how their debt has been canceled a family’s outlook improves. Anxiety turns into hope. Families can now take better care of their health. Credit ratings improve. This is what “The Starfish Campaign” accomplishes. The ministry to which God has called us to is changing people’s lives!
Did you know you can cancel the average amount of medical debt a family owes for a $20 contribution? This is possible because Undue Medical Debt knows the medical debt industry inside and out. They purchase medical debt from collection agencies and hospitals in large bundles for pennies on the dollar. Their guarantee is that each dollar we send them will remove at least $100 of medical debt.
