Where Do You Place Your Hope?

Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NIV)

Hope is a fantastic skill. Just like a muscle grows with exercise, our ability to hope can grow and develop as we practice using it. We can grow and develop our ability to hope, but hope is still only as good as the thing you are putting your hope into. We can put our hope in organizations, people, and even the government. Unfortunately, all of those things will at some point fail. When they do, hope is lost. The most trustworthy place we can put our hope is in the LORD. When we do, it renews our strength because we know that God will never fail us. Talk to the LORD about where you have been putting your hope.

Not Lacking Anything

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4 NIV)

Let that verse sink in for a moment. For us to become mature and complete, not lacking in anything, we must face trials. Our human nature responds to trials by praying for God to remove them. An alternative would be to seek God’s guidance and strength to help you go through it. Trials can grow us by helping us develop a reliance on God. As we grow in relying on God, we also grow in learning to trust Him. Trust is not a light switch. It grows over time and practice. As we rely on and trust God more and more, it creates a path for us to have hope in God. Pray today for your attitude towards trials. Ask God to help you see them as opportunities to grow.

Coming On The Clouds

“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:30 NIV)

Jesus was born as a baby in Bethlehem. He lived, taught, and performed miracles. He died on a cross an innocent man. Three days later He rose from the dead. Forty days after that He ascended into heaven. He is there today interceding on our behalf. One day, He will return to earth as described in the verse above. For His followers, it will be a day of great celebration. For His enemies, it will be a day of great mourning. If you are a follower of Jesus, praise that day. Eagerly pray for Jesus to return. Praise Him for your salvation and being able to celebrate His return.

Family Sundays are worship services that we close down our older kids children's ministry and welcome everyone into the same worship service. They are geared to be welcoming to families with children as well as giving our amazing NVKids workers a Sunday of refreshment. The Nursery does remain open for ages 0 to 4. The rest of the kids and adults are all together and the service time will be limited to 45 minutes. The service will also include some portion targeted for kids.

The Rapture

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 NIV)

This passage in 1 Thessalonians is an encouragement for followers of Jesus. It describes the time of Jesus’ second coming and the resurrection of His followers. For those of us lucky enough to be alive at that time, we will not experience a physical death. Instead, we will be caught up in the air with the resurrected in Christ and be transformed into our glorified bodies. In this present life, many things are hard and suffering is real. But one day, we will get to experience meeting Jesus in the air, heaven, and God’s throne room. Pray that those things will encourage us and give us hope to endure our present sufferings.
