Quite often, there are requests on community pages from families searching for a “kid-friendly church.” I understand what they mean. Parents want their children to be welcomed, loved, safe, and included in a place of worship.

But consider this.....is that the whole biblical picture?

Jesus welcomed children, loved them, and treated them as extremely precious (Matthew 19:14). Children were also taught God’s Word, included among God’s people, and addressed as those capable of hearing and obeying truth (Deuteronomy 31:12–13; Ephesians 6:1–3).

Yet, additionally, the Bible also describes the Christian life as spiritual warfare.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11).

The church should certainly be a place where children feel loved—but it must also be a place where they are trained. They need more than entertainment. They need to hear deep biblical truths. They need more than activities. They need help putting on the spiritual armor. They need to learn how to resist temptation, recognize error, defend their faith, endure hardship, and stand for Christ in a world that often opposes Him.

At Hillview Terrace, we want to be more than “kid-friendly.”

We want to help prepare children for a lifetime of faithfulness.

We want them welcomed like children, taught like disciples, and trained like soldiers of Christ.

Thank you to all of our VBS teachers, both in the classrooms and in the adult auditorium, for their tireless work each evening. Your preparation, patience, love, and dedication have been such a blessing.

Thank you also to everyone who attended, invited others, and brought children to be part of this week. It is a wonderful encouragement to see families making Bible study a priority.

There are few things more beautiful than seeing young hearts excited to learn about God’s Word. Their questions, smiles, songs, and eagerness remind us of the great blessing and responsibility we have to teach the next generation.

We are thankful for every student, every teacher, every helper, and every family who helped make this VBS such a blessing.
