It’s a little after midnight here in Mosheim, TN. At about this time (by the clock; not to the day) some 3,000 years ago, there was much wailing in the land of Egypt. Why? Because the 10th and final plague had just taken place across the land. The firstborn of every household in the region had been killed. Every household that is, except the ones found to be covered by the blood of the sacrificial lamb.
If you’ve been following along, you know we have been studying the book of Matthew on Sunday mornings for the past 2 years. So why are talking about the Exodus and the Passover?
Because we have reached the point where Jesus poses the greatest question of all time, for which we must all give an answer, “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15)
This Sunday, we will look at the answer to that question through the lens of the Passover. How does the Exodus lead us to Calvary?

Join us for Sunday School at 10:00AM and Worship at 11:00AM. Hope to see you here!

“Who do you say that I am?”
In Matthew 16:15, Jesus asks the most important question in all of scripture.
The entirety of scripture, both the Old and the New Testaments, depends upon the answer to this question. Who is Jesus?

But why does it matter? What is the significance for you and me?
This week we will look specifically at “THE Question.” We will then spend the next few weeks delving into “THE Answer.”

Join us this Sunday as we continue our study through the book of Matthew!

You’ve heard of being “so Heavenly minded, you’re no earthly good,” right? This is typically used in the context of people who focus so much on checking the religious boxes, they forget the fundamentals like showing compassion to their neighbors.
But what about the flip-side? What happens when we focus so deeply on the things of this world, we neglect the next?
In Matthew 16:1-12, this is the downfall of the religious leaders ( the Pharisees and Sadducees) and even the Disciples. However, the two groups come to eternally different conclusions, after their interactions with Christ. The Disciples realize that Jesus is not simply talking about “Bread Again,” and that makes all the difference.

This week, we come to a passage that is often considered “controversial.” Some say Jesus is harsh with the woman who comes to Him. Others say He is apathetic and lacks compassion.
In reality, our Savior is much more compassionate than any of us deserve. When understood appropriately, we can see that Jesus’s response to this Canaanite woman is intended to test the validity of her Faith. This passage flies in the face of a surface-level, cheap Grace Christianity, and is thus often viewed with criticism.
Join us this Sunday as we study together the kind of faith our Lord expects from us: Faith for just the crumbs from His table.

Hypocrites!

This is a hot-button word that is thrown around a lot inside and outside of the Church today, but what does it mean? Why did Jesus make such a strong accusation against the Pharisees? What has the Law of God and traditions to do with any of it? What is the place of tradition in the Church?

Join us this Sunday as we move into the second half of the book of Matthew to answer these questions and take another step towards a better understanding of the King we serve!

Help us decide where we go from here!

We have been studying the book of Matthew verse-by-verse since April 4, 2024 😲. As of now it looks like our time in Matthew will draw to a close sometime in the middle months of 2027. While that seems like a long time, there is much preparation that goes into a book study, and pastor Derrick is looking to get a jump on the early prep stages.

Here’s where you come in:
Comment here or use the link below to take a short survey regarding which book of the Bible you would be most excited to study next. The options are:
- Genesis
- Galatians
- Hebrews
- 1 Corinthians
- Colossians

As we find ourselves crossing the halfway point of the book of Matthew, one thing is clear: the goal of Matthew’s Gospel is to present Christ as The Sovereign King of all of Creation!
Often when we read Matthew 14:22-33, we find ourselves wrapped up in the display and faltering of Peter’s faith. However, it is not Peter’s faith on which our hope rests. Our great hope is in knowing who Christ is, and that is the big idea in this passage.
What does this tell us about Christ? How does this story solidify our faith in Him? Where do we see God’s providence on display?

Come and get plugged in to Sunday School at 10:00AM, then join us at 11:00AM as scripture guides us through the answers to these questions.
