One of the hardest questions a believer can ask is not, βWhat am I willing to give up for God?β but rather, βWhat have I convinced myself I cannot live without?βπ€
The rich young ruler came to Jesus looking for life, yet walked away grieving because he discovered there was something he trusted more than the One standing in front of him. The issue was never the possession itself. The issue was what had captured his confidence.
Anything that becomes essential to your sense of security will eventually compete for the place that belongs to God alone. That is why Jesus invites us to count the cost. Not because He wants less for us, but because He knows that anything we cling to more tightly than Him will eventually ask for a price that is too high.
πβWhere your treasure is, there your heart will be also.β Matthew 6:21
