Geneva Lee Main York, affectionately known as Meme, 89, of Morganton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Born June 9, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Ira Hamilton Main Sr. and Loy Harmon Main. She was one of ten children and the last surviving of her brothers and sisters.

Geneva loved the Lord and believed deeply in the importance of faith and family. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and later attended First United Methodist Church in Morganton.

She shared 52 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Roy Junior York. For many years, they gardened together and canned the vegetables they grew. She enjoyed being outside and devoted much of her life to caring for her home and family.

Meme had a spirited personality and was fiercely loyal to the family she loved. She made the best chicken and dumplings, was rarely without a cup of coffee, and never failed to offer a visitor something to eat. Her beloved dog and faithful companion, Beanie, was always close by her side.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Junior York; her nine brothers and sisters; and her grandson-in-law, Jimmy Halliburton.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sharon Hubbard of Drexel; her granddaughter, Amber Halliburton of Morganton; and her great-grandchildren, Emma Halliburton and Coleman Halliburton, both of Morganton.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Sossoman Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Burke Memorial Park with Rev. Dan Hester officiating. Geneva will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Roy.

Memorial contributions may be made in Geneva’s memory to the wood ministry of First United Methodist Church in Morganton or Amorem Hospice.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
