WCC Daily Devotional - # You Are Not Your Own **September 7, 2026**Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (ESV) “You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Most of us are willing to follow God—as long as He leads us somewhere we are comfortable going.

We trust Him with certain parts of our lives. We give Him Sunday mornings. We give Him our prayers. We ask Him to bless our families, guide our decisions, and help us when life gets difficult.

But then God puts His finger on something we would rather keep for ourselves.

Maybe it is a relationship we need to repair. Maybe it is someone we need to forgive. Maybe God is asking us to be generous when we would rather hold on tightly. Maybe He is calling us to serve, speak up, step out, or do something that feels completely outside our comfort zone.

And suddenly we discover there are places in our lives where we have quietly drawn a line. “Lord, I’ll follow You here—but I’m not sure about there.”

Paul gives us an important reminder in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20: **“You are not your own.”**

Those words can sound uncomfortable in a world that constantly tells us that our lives belong entirely to us. But for the Christian, surrender is at the very heart of following Jesus.

We belong to Him.

Jesus paid the price for our salvation. He gave His life for us. And when we gave our lives to Christ, we weren’t simply asking Jesus to become part of our lives—we were placing our lives into His hands.

That means God gets access to every room.

Our plans.
Our relationships.
Our money.
Our time.
Our habits.
Our future.
Even the places we would rather keep locked.

And sometimes God will lead us beyond what feels comfortable.

Not because He is trying to make our lives difficult, but because He knows there is more ahead than we can currently see.

Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God is able to do **“far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.”** Sometimes experiencing that “more” requires us to loosen our grip on what is familiar and trust the One who already knows what is ahead.

Every step of surrender becomes another opportunity to discover that God is faithful.

Think about your own life for a moment. There were probably times when God led you somewhere you never expected to go. At the time, you may have been nervous. You may have wondered whether you were ready. You may even have resisted.

But looking back, you can see His hand.

That is how faith grows.

The Christian life isn't about reaching a place where we finally have everything figured out. It is about continuing to follow Jesus—one faithful step at a time.

Because we belong to Him. And wherever He leads, we can trust that He already knows the way.

**Prayer:**
Father, thank You for loving me enough to lead me beyond what is comfortable and into a deeper trust in You. Show me the places in my life that I am still holding onto. Help me remember that I belong to You, and give me the faith and courage to follow wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, amen.

WCC Devotonal - # God Is Still Working on You **September 5, 2026 **Philippians 1:1–11**

There is a verse in Philippians that I think every Christian needs to remember: “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” — Philippians 1:6**

That is a wonderful promise because sometimes we can become frustrated with ourselves.

We know the areas where we still struggle. We know the habits we haven't completely overcome. We know the thoughts and attitudes that aren't always what they should be. And sometimes we look at ourselves and wonder, *Shouldn't I be further along by now?*

But Paul reminds us of something important: **God isn't finished with us yet.**

The Christian life begins with grace, and it continues by grace.

Grace is God's undeserved favor toward us. We didn't earn our salvation, and we don't earn God's love by becoming better people. Ephesians 2:8 tells us, **“For by grace you have been saved through faith.”**

But grace doesn't stop the moment we are saved.
Grace keeps working.

God begins changing us from the inside out. He teaches us. He corrects us. He strengthens us. He uses Scripture, prayer, circumstances, and even difficult seasons to slowly shape us into the people He wants us to become.

We call that process **sanctification**. That's a theological word that simply means God is making us more like Jesus.

And it is a process. Sometimes the growth is obvious. Other times it happens so slowly that we barely notice it.

Think about a child growing. You don't usually wake up one morning and suddenly notice that they've grown three inches. But look at a picture from a few years ago and the difference is unmistakable.

Spiritual growth can be like that. You may not see everything God is doing in your life today. But that doesn't mean He isn't working.

In fact, recognizing our weaknesses can sometimes be part of that growth. The closer we walk with Christ, the more aware we often become of the places in our lives that still need His grace.

So don't confuse **“I'm not finished”** with **“I'm failing.”**

God knows exactly where you are.
He knows what still needs to change.
And He has not abandoned the work He started.

Our responsibility is to keep walking with Him—to remain in His Word, stay close to Him in prayer, listen when He corrects us, and trust Him with the process.

You are a work in progress. So am I.

And thankfully, **God is still working on us.**

# # # Prayer: Father, thank You for Your grace and for never giving up on the work You have begun in me. Help me to trust You when I can't see my own growth and to keep walking faithfully with You. Continue shaping my heart and making me more like Jesus. Amen.

Lift high the name of Jesus

WCC Daily Devotional **September 4, 2026* # When We Get Tired of Waiting **Genesis 16:1–12**

Waiting is hard. It’s especially hard when you believe God has promised something, you’ve prayed about it, you’ve trusted Him—and nothing seems to be happening.

Sometimes God answers our prayers with “yes.” Sometimes the answer is “no.” And sometimes the answer is simply, **“Not yet.”**

That may be the hardest answer of all.

Abraham knew what it was like to wait. God had promised that He would make a great nation from him and give him descendants. But year after year passed, and Abraham and Sarah still had no child.

Eventually, Sarah decided they needed to help the plan along.

In Genesis 16, she gave her servant Hagar to Abraham so that they could have a child through her. Hagar became pregnant with Ishmael, and almost immediately the situation became painful and complicated. Jealousy, resentment, anger and blame entered the household.

The problem wasn’t that God had forgotten His promise.

**The problem was that Abraham and Sarah got tired of waiting for God to fulfill it.**

Sometimes we pray about something for so long that we begin wondering if maybe we need to take matters into our own hands. We start forcing doors. We start making our own plans. We convince ourselves that maybe this is how God intended things to happen.

But there is a difference between following God and trying to hurry God.

Abraham and Sarah would eventually have Isaac, exactly as God had promised. But Isaac would come **in God’s time and in God’s way.**

Waiting on God isn’t wasted time.

Sometimes God is working on circumstances we cannot see. Sometimes He is preparing other people. And sometimes He is doing something in us while we wait.

Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, **“They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength.”**

Maybe you’re waiting on something today.

You’ve prayed. You’ve asked. You’ve wondered why God hasn’t opened the door yet.

Don’t assume that God’s silence means God’s absence.

And don’t become so impatient that you try to manufacture your own answer.

**If God has you waiting, keep trusting Him. His timing is always better than ours.**

**Prayer:** Father, waiting can be difficult, especially when we don’t understand what You are doing. Help us resist the temptation to run ahead of You. Give us patience to trust Your wisdom, Your plan and Your timing. Help us remember that even while we wait, You are still at work. In Jesus’ name, amen.
