An update on the fire at Mama Ngina:

First of all, THANK YOU SO, so much to all who gave in this time of need. We are beyond grateful that you stepped in right away to meet the need.

Second, great news! After spending one night with Agape, all 58 children have returned back to their center after temporary dormitories were set up. This quick return of the children came as quite the surprise, as the last time Agape cared for Mama Ngina children back in 2023, they stayed with us for six months. We were expecting a similar situation this time when we sent out the ask.

Again, we are so grateful for all your generosity! All donated funds collected in Kenya will be directly transferred to Mama Ngina to help out with the cost of their fire. We will be reaching out individually to US donors next!

Again, thank you for all your help! You all are fire πŸ”₯😎

Update: This need has been met! Thank you to all who gave!

A fire broke out at Mama Ngina Children's Home in Kisumu, today. Thankfully these children are now safe and sound with us at Agape.

However, we are in urgent need of supplies from locals to house 58 extra kids at our Kisumu campus.

If you live in Kenya and are able to donate supplies directly to our Kisumu campus, we would be grateful!

We currently need:

πŸ”₯ Mattresses
πŸ”₯ Sheets and blankets
πŸ”₯ Clothes for all ages
πŸ”₯ Foodstuffs

If you live in Kenya, but would rather donate MPESA, you can donate to our paybill listed on the last graphic.

If you don't live in Kenya but would still like to help, you can donate funds at agapechildren.org/donate (just mark what the donation is for in the comments).

Thank you so much! πŸ™Œ

S T O R I E S

Isaac,* is 17 and the firstborn in a family of five siblings. After the death of his father, Isaac’s mother remarried almost immediately, and the changes at home after his mother’s remarriage made life difficult for him.

He decided to drop out of school, telling his mother that he no longer wanted to continue with formal education and instead wished to pursue a jua kali (apprenticeship) training course. His mother, however, insisted that he should remain in school, which led to increased tension between them. Feeling misunderstood and frustrated, Isaac eventually ran away from home and started living on the streets. There he met Outreach Officers from Agape who engaged him in conversations, offered him hope, and later brought him to Agape for rehabilitation.

At Agape, Isaac received counseling, life skills training, and mentorship, and above all heard the gospel which he says taught him to forgive. He mentioned that his transition was made easier because he had never engaged in hard drug use or alcohol consumption while living on the streets.

After completing the program, Isaac was successfully reunited with his family and was ready to ask for forgiveness from his mother and step-father. With the continued support of Agape, he was enrolled in a motorbike mechanics course, which he recently completed successfully.

Today, Isaac is a skilled motorbike repair expert. He takes pride in his work and is grateful to Agape for transforming his life and helping him regain purpose and direction. He has started saving money with the goal of buying his own tools, and, in the future, starting his own motorbike repair business. His mother is very happy and proud of the positive progress her son has made. She attests that she has seen a great change in his character, attitude, and behavior.
Isaac now helps with household chores and even supports his mother financially by contributing towards buying food and other family needs. His life has completely transformed!

Family Reunification often looks like Rehabilitation. We have found over the last fifteen years of reintegrating children with family that without that crucial step of rehabilitation time, children are much less successful in staying home. They need that time to heal before going back into a normal life at home. Because their time away from home on the streets was anything but normal.

That's part of why it's so crucial that Agape Kitale stays open--to make sure children are receiving crucial care for a successful transition to home.
