We are saddened to share that Gerry Jarvis has gone to be with the Lord. He passed away on December 3rd. Gerry was a wonderful servant in Nineveh whose purpose was being a light in a dark place and to show the love of God to others. He did that as he served at Oregon Park, week after week. Gerry will be missed greatly. Please pray for his precious wife Hye and their family. A memorial service will be held at Franklin and Downs Funeral home, 1050 McHenry Avenue, Tuesday, December 29 at 2:30 PM. The service will be outside in a portico area.
Modesto City Schools is saddened to announce the passing of long-time Elliott Alternative Education Center educator, Mr. Gerard "Jerry" Jarvis. In mid-November, Mr. Jarvis informed his supervisor that he had contracted COVID-19 outside of the work environment. Then, yesterday, December 10, the District received word from Mr. Jarvis' family that he had passed away due to complications related to COVID-19.
Mr. Jarvis was with Modesto City Schools for 32 years, and he spent his entire career at Elliott. He had a big heart for the spirit of education, and a deep level of care for his Elliott colleagues and the students. He was always committed to seeing students at all levels succeed, both in their academics and in their lives after high school.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Jarvis was a computer and adult education teacher, as well as an adult education counselor. He kept a watchful eye over Elliott students and looked out for their best interests, including providing uplifting support, a smile, and encouragement when they needed it the most. He truly cared about all of his colleagues, and he made it a point to visit every office/classroom on a daily basis to ask how everyone was doing. He was also famous for bringing donuts for all of his students and the entire staff on the last day of every quarter.
Jerry was loved immensely by everyone, and he will be truly missed. His memory will live on, not only on the Elliott campus, but also in the entire Modesto community.
We are awaiting information on funeral arrangements and ways to pay condolences. We will provide more information when we receive it, including ways to donate to a scholarship fund that will be established to assist Elliott students in continuing their education endeavors.
Please keep Mr. Jarvis’ family in your hearts, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Elliott Principal Sarah Cox is also working with grief counselors to provide resources to staff, students and families who are in need of support.
