The weather finally broke, and we noticed something that happens every year about now. People start walking the grounds again.

Through the summer, when it's 100 degrees and humid by 9am, nobody's out. But come fall, folks come back. Some are visiting someone. Some just want a quiet place to walk under the oaks and think. Both are welcome here.

If you've been meaning to come by and it's been too hot, this is the stretch of weeks to do it. The grounds are quiet, the shade is good, and there's no reason you need to be visiting anyone in particular to take a walk here.

We just finished building a new mausoleum, and right now it's the only one in Mobile with spaces still available.

If you're not sure what that means: a mausoleum is an above-ground building where caskets are placed in sealed compartments, rather than being buried in the ground. Some families prefer it. It stays dry, it's protected from the weather, and visiting means walking into a clean, quiet space instead of standing out in the elements.

One of the most common things we hear from families after a loss: "I wish we'd talked about this beforehand."

Nobody wants to think about a mausoleum. That's the honest starting point, and we get it.

For anyone who hasn't been around the term, a mausoleum is above-ground entombment. A crypt inside a permanent structure. Clean, weather-protected, and often easier to visit than a graveside.

Here's what we've noticed though. The families who look into it early tend to walk away feeling lighter, not heavier. They have real numbers, a space they've actually stood in, and a plan their kids won't have to piece together under pressure later.

It's not the right choice for every family, but it's worth understanding before you decide anything.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember.

Today we pause to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the first responders, service members, and families whose sacrifices continue to shape our nation.

For many, this day still carries weight. A quiet moment, a phone call to someone you love, a visit to a place of remembrance. However you mark it, we're thinking of you.

We remember. We honor. We never forget.

Planning ahead for a mausoleum is one of the most thoughtful things you can do for the people you love. It's not an easy topic. Most people avoid it.

We want to make it a little easier.
