Emmaus Campus Ministry at The University of Montana

Emmaus Campus Ministry at The University of Montana We're a campus ministry student group embracing diversity of people and perspectives and welcome all. We live faith through community, dialogue, & service.

Check out our Emmaus Alumni page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/252430612070902/ Our focus is on community, conversations, questions, experience, and faith lived out in daily life. We welcome people of all faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds. We also welcome all LGBTQ+ students and young adults and deeply value our relationships with Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Native Americans and everyone else. We are funded by the ELCA Lutherans as well as partners with the Episcopalians, Methodists and the United Church of Christ. We meet weekly on Wednesday nights in small groups for dinners and conversations about life and faith

We also host many service projects, guest speakers, social events, retreats, interfaith events, and advocacy trainings throughout the school year. In addition, we have several student peer ministers who are available to talk and listen as well as a full-time campus pastor who is available for pastoral care. Come and join us as we try and figure out our role in the world!

Hello Emmaus Students, Friends, and Supporters!

We would like to introduce you to the newest member of our small but mighty team - Court VonLindern! Court is going to be our Elizabeth Project Coordinator this year, and also spending time with our Luther Seminary Residency Program as one of our Spiritual Directors.

Court VonLindern (they/he) is a spiritual director, q***r theologian, and facilitator here in Missoula, MT. Court was raised in the United Methodist Church, and briefly pursued the ordination track in the UMC. He received his Master of Divinity from Iliff School of Theology, and chose to step away from ordination when he realized that they felt called beyond the Church walls and institutions. Court has a long background in working in LGBTQIA+ centered spiritual spaces, as well as youth and camping ministries.

You can typically find Court encountering Spirit in lakes, rivers, trees, and in moments of whimsy with their partner, greyhound dog, and tortoiseshell cat. They're excited to be coordinating the Elizabeth Project at Emmaus!

And we are so excited that they will be joining us tonight as a Guest Speaker for our Wednesday Night Gathering! Please give Court a warm welcome as they embark on this journey with us!

We have definitely started the school year and hit the ground running! Last week was the first week of school at the University of Montana, which means lots of tabling for Emmaus and a Welcome Back BBQ, that had 35 students in attendance!

As we start to get in to a normal rhythm, last night was our first Wednesday Night Gathering of the semester, and we had a wonderful turnout! More than 15 students gathered for a great meal together and share some community space together.

We are looking forward to the journey we have ahead of us for this school, and we are excited for you to join us!

Congratulations Pastor Eric! Thank you for dreaming big!

Pastor Eric Huseth is someone who pursues innovative grants, statewide collaboration, and student ministry residency programs as he dreams about what campus ministry can be. These creative ideas are at the heart of this award. All of these risks that Pr. Eric takes are done in community with students, colleagues, and the wider church. We give thanks for Pr. We would love to share with you about one of our recent Emmaus graduates - Meghan Schaeffer! Meghan has been accepted in to the ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program and will be serving in Argentina and Uruguay for a year starting this summer!

This is an amazing commitment and truly a honor to be accepted. Meghan is still seeking support for this amazing adventure ahead of her. Below you can read a message from Meghan and after you will also see a link to donate as you feel called to do:

"I am so grateful to have been accepted into the Young Adults in Global Mission program with the ELCA — a year of service, learning, and community alongside the global church.

I will be serving in Argentina/ Uruguay beginning this August of 2026, and I could not be more humbled and excited for what lies ahead. My placement will connect me with local partners doing meaningful work in their communities, and I will have the privilege of walking alongside them as a learner and contributor.

As part of this call, I am asked to raise $10,000 to cover the cost of travel, training, room and board, medical insurance, and a monthly living stipend provided by the ELCA. Every gift — no matter the size — makes this year of service possible.

If you feel moved to support me, I would be deeply grateful. And beyond finances, I would love your prayers, your encouragement, and the chance to reconnect over coffee or a meal before I go.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me.

- Meghan Schaeffer

We had a great time on Sunday with our new and returning student residents for the 2026-2027 School Year! Tours of the property, getting to know each other, going over some policies, and, of course, eating some food!

And now the students are in to their first week of school! Go Griz!!

What a different view we now have by our firepit! Last week we had to cut down our giant trees that have given us so much shade and shelter over the many years. After the heavy wind storm a couple of years, we had to assess whether it was safe to keep these here and we know they are risky in heavy storms. So, it is bittersweet that share the results of these trees being chopped down. It's very bittersweet. We will miss these beautiful, massive trees, but we also know this is necessary for our safety, and we are excited for the possibilities of new growth and open space.

Yesterday our Emmaus staff gathered as a team of four for the last time. We are now a team of three. We had our last opportunity to spend time with Caleb before he takes on his new call.

Caleb leaves Missoula on Tuesday and heads out to Wyoming where he is taking a lay pastor call at a 2-point parish.

This time together before Caleb's departure was truly valued and was a great time to pause and be in the moment together.

We thank you, Caleb, for your service here in Missoula! Not just with Emmaus, but also with Grace UMC, Interfaith Power and Light, and so many other avenues that you were infused in this community. We are grateful for the work that you have done here and the compassion you have shown all around you.

We send you to Wyoming with lots of love and prayers, while we cherish the imprint that you have left upon us. And we look forward to hearing of your time in Wyoming.

Many Blessings to you, Caleb!
