Your Words Can Bring Life — or Kill Something in Someone You Love

The people closest to us should not have to recover from the way we speak to them.

Our words carry weight. They can strengthen confidence, encourage growth, restore hope, and speak life—or they can tear down something inside of a person we love.

Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue.

That means we cannot be careless with our words, especially in our homes, marriages, friendships, and families.

Being frustrated does not give us permission to speak recklessly. Being angry does not remove the responsibility to represent the King well.

Before you speak, ask yourself: Is what I’m about to say bringing life, or is it destroying something?

Watch how you talk to the people you love.

Speak life. Build people up. Let your words reflect the heart of the King.

Speak With Christ’s Authority — and Take Action!

Kingdom authority is not passive.

As followers of Christ, we are called to speak with faith, truth, and confidence in who our King is. We are ambassadors for Christ, which means the way we speak and the way we live should represent Him.

But authority is not just about what comes out of our mouths—it should also move us to action.

If something needs to change, pray about it. Speak God’s truth over it. Then take the steps God is calling you to take.

Speak against the habits that are keeping you bound—and make different choices.
Speak faith in difficult seasons—and keep moving forward.
Speak life over your future—and walk in obedience.

Jesus did not only speak—He moved.

So don’t just talk about change. Walk it out.

Speak with the authority of the King, and let your actions agree with what you say you believe.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. -2 Cor 5:20 NIV

We want to take a moment to celebrate and honor our Pastors, JJ and Laura Perez.

If there’s one thing we know about Pastors JJ and Laura, it’s that they genuinely have a heart for people. Their love for God and their desire to see people grow, thrive, and become all that God has called them to be are at the center of everything they do.

They don’t just want people to hear a good message on Sunday. They want people to know Jesus for themselves, understand His Word, apply it to their everyday lives, and experience real transformation.

Over the years, they’ve poured so much of themselves into Thrive Church, The Thrive Center, and the people God has entrusted to their care. They’ve walked alongside individuals and families through difficult seasons, celebrated their victories, challenged them to grow, and continued to believe in people even when they struggled to believe in themselves.

For them, ministry has never been just about a building, a Sunday service, or a title. It’s about people. It’s about building lives, strengthening families, and creating opportunities for others to thrive in all areas of their lives.

Pastors JJ and Laura, thank you for your hearts, your obedience to God’s calling, and the love and commitment you continue to show our church family and community. We know the journey hasn’t always been easy, but thank you for continuing to pour into us and invest in our lives.

We love you, honor you, and appreciate you both.

Happy Pastor Appreciation Month!

Your Words Carry the Weight of the King

When people walk away from a conversation with you, what did your words leave behind?

Did they feel encouraged, strengthened, and pointed toward the King—or torn down?

As Kingdom citizens, our words carry responsibility. We are called to speak in a way that reflects the heart of the King, and sometimes that means speaking truth that is uncomfortable.

Truth spoken in love is not destruction.

Sometimes love corrects.
Sometimes love confronts.
Sometimes love says what is necessary, even when it is difficult to hear.

15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—

Ephesians 4:15 reminds us to speak the truth in love.

The goal is never to tear someone down. The goal is to speak in a way that leads toward growth, wisdom, and life.

So before you speak, remember who you represent.

Your words carry the weight of the King. Use them to build, correct with love, and speak life.

Your Words Carry the King’s Authority — Speak Life

Your words are not empty.

As Kingdom citizens, we represent the King—and that means we have to take seriously what we speak over ourselves, our families, our situations, and the people around us.

Speaking life is more than saying something positive. It is choosing words that agree with God’s truth, reflect His character, and point toward what He is able to do.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue.

So be careful what you speak.

Do not casually speak defeat over what God is developing.
Do not speak hopelessness where God is still working.
Do not use your words to tear down what you should be building up.

If we represent the King, then our words should sound like the Kingdom.

Speak life. Speak truth. Speak faith.

Grateful for the people who help lead us into worship each Sunday. 🤍🎶

Maya, Wendy, and Raquel are part of our Worship Team, using their gifts to help lead our church family in moments that turn our focus back to God, remind us of His goodness, and encourage us as we grow in faith together.

There’s something powerful about lifting our voices together and worshiping as one church family.

What happens on Sunday is never about one person—it’s a team of people showing up, serving faithfully, and using what God has placed in them.

We’re thankful for these ladies and the heart they bring to The Family Room.❤️

The Early Church Blueprint: Unity That Reveals the King

Kingdom relationships are meant to show the world what life under the King looks like.

The goal is more than simply getting along. It is becoming a people so united under Jesus that no one is left in need, everyone continues to grow, and others can see the King through the way we live together.

That is the picture we see in the early church—people committed to God, committed to one another, growing together, sharing what they had, and living in a way that pointed people back to Jesus.

Unity is not just about being in the same room.
It is about carrying one another.

Growing together.
Serving one another.
And representing the heart of the King together.

When Kingdom relationships are healthy, people should be able to see Jesus in how we love, support, and care for one another.

32 Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. 34 Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need. -Acts 4:32-35 NKJV

Love Without Conditions

Kingdom relationships are not built on “if you do this, then I’ll do that.”

Healthy love does not keep score, attach conditions, or wait to see what it will get in return. It gives, honors, and serves because that reflects the heart of the King.

Jesus gave Himself freely for us. His love becomes the example for how we are called to love one another.

John 13:34–35 reminds us that the way we love each other should make it clear that we belong to Him.

““A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John‬ ‭13‬:‭34‬-‭35‬ ‭NIV‬

Kingdom relationships should look different.

Love without conditions.
Honor without an agenda.
Give without expecting repayment.
Let people see the King in the way we treat one another.

The goal is not just to have better relationships—it is to become a people so united under the King that others can see Jesus in how we live together.

Love With No Agenda — Give Without Keeping Score

Kingdom relationships are not built on transactions.

Love should not sound like, “I’ll do this if you do that.” The moment we start keeping score, withholding love, or expecting something in return for every act of kindness, the relationship becomes conditional.

A sincere and generous heart gives because love is the motive—not because there is something to gain.

That applies to friendships.
That applies to family.
That applies to marriage.
That applies to the way we treat one another in the Body of Christ.

Healthy Kingdom relationships require us to stop asking, “What am I getting out of this?” and start asking, “How can I love well?”

Love without the hidden agenda.
Give without keeping score.
Serve without making everything a transaction.

That is what Kingdom relationship looks like.
