For those of you who were not able to be there for our final celebration concert at SOP, here it is! It was such a joyous time! What a gift to have this memory as part of our legacy of ministry! Thanks to Dr. Abe for arranging for the video and for directing the concert! Thanks to all those who participated and attended!
As we go forth on our journeys, may we continue to breathe in and live out a Spirit of Peace!

Some final activities at Spirit of Peace…

This afternoon, Joe Krajci and Rebecca Wainwright, on behalf of Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church, signed over our church building to the new owner, Paul, who will immediately start to renovate it into a Day Care Center.

A mountain of thanks also goes to Betty Streng, Jean Zachariasen, and Bob Young for their tireless efforts in putting together the mountain of archival material from SOP and its 4 predecessor congregations to be sent to the regional archives at Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, IA.

Also, Martin Luther Lutheran Church will be finishing up today with moving our organ to its new home in their church building. Our piano was picked up and moved to Luther Memorial Lutheran Church earlier this week.

Here are some final looks at the place we’ve called our church home for so long, including a glimpse at the 23 boxes of archival material (representing all 5 congregations that have been a part of this church’s lineage for over 100 years) that I’ll be dropping off at the Region 5 archives of the ELCA in Dubuque the next time I go to see family in Iowa.

May a spirit of peace be with you all!
Pastor Michael

This is our FINAL worship service for the faith community called Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. We had quite the celebration, yet some sadness lingers. As we find other church families to belong to, there’s already talk of keeping in touch while finding times and places to still gather as Spirit of Peace people. Peace out, friends…

Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church in Milwaukee is having its final service as a congregation tomorrow, Sunday, February 25 at 10:30am. If you're in the area, feel free to come celebrate the final worship with this wonderful church family. There's also a food reception following worship, and a 1pm special music concert following that.

It'll be a bittersweet day, but there's no doubt, especially with the Legacy Planning we've done, that this will be a celebration!

The Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church has officially decided to close its doors. Leaders say they were unable to fully recover from the pandemic.

Just a heads up, y'all...TMJ4 just did a camera interview with me on the closing of Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church. I have no idea when it will air, but I imagine you can check out tmj4.com to track it. 🙂

This last Sunday, the membership of Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church cast its final vote to end well as an official congregation of the ELCA. This means that Spirit of Peace will officially have its final Gathering this Sunday, February 25 at 10:30am, with a special concert (featuring Doc Abe Cáceres) at 1pm. A food and drink reception is offered from 12-1pm in the fellowship hall. See the pinned post on our FB homepage.

As has been said, it’s a bittersweet moment. This church family has some rich memories of times and ministries shared over the years, including memories being a church with the various identities of Washington Park, St. Thomas, Pentecost, and Divine Word. What we can be gratified by is having developed a Legacy Plan that will ensure that our final acts of faith together as a congregation will live on through other faithful ministries around us, including these:
Tricklebee Cafe
The Table
Breaking the Chains Ministry
Outreach for Hope
Global Refuge (formerly Lutheran Immigration & Refugee Service)
New Mission Development in the Greater Milwaukee Synod - ELCA

Our final gathering this Sunday will be a worship celebration lifting up the faithful life and ministry of Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church! Come join us!
