Last night, some of our our Mid Naz families came together to pack 200 lunches for Project Community Connect! We're grateful for church family that believes faith is more than something we talk about, it's something we live out. Thank you to everyone who showed up and shared their unique gifts to care for our neighbors and bring hope to our community. ❤️🍞🏘

“You’re not the teacher. You’re learning with everyone else.”

That was one of the things our Reflection Group leaders shared with us on Sunday. Leading isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about creating space for honest conversation, good questions, and learning together.

As we prepare for the next round of groups, we’re looking for a few more people who might be willing to facilitate. More facilitators means we can keep our groups small enough for people to really connect. You choose the day and time that works for you, it’s a 7-week commitment, and we provide the training. And if you can’t make every week, we can pair you with another facilitator.

Students it’s almost here!! Our first large group gathering this Thursday, September 3 from 7-9 pm. We’ll start out in the square with snacks, games, and a dirty soda bar then we will head to the sanctuary for worship and prayer. Can’t wait to see you there! 🙌🥤😊 MidNaz Students

Yesterday we wrapped up our Worship Questions series with one final question: Why baptism? 🤔 Pastor Justin walked us through the many ways Christians have practiced baptism over the last 2,000+ years - dunking, pouring, sprinkling, splashing - and how easy it is to get caught up in our opinions about how it should be done and lose sight of what’s foundational.

When John the Baptist called people to repentance, baptism became an expression of that repentance. And when Jesus entered the water himself, something remarkable happened. The heavens opened. The Spirit descended. And a voice declared, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Jesus’s baptism points us toward something we experience in our own baptism. We confess our faith, the Spirit takes over, and God declares, “This one is mine.” Baptism isn’t what saves us but it is a beautiful expression of the life of someone who has been saved. It’s a step of obedience, identification, and surrender to Jesus.

Something new is happening this fall. 👀

We're changing things up a bit in Student Ministries! Starting next Thursday, we're launching FIRST THURSDAYS: a monthly gathering for all students in grades 6-12. Come hang out, grab food, build your dream dirty soda, meet new people, and spend time with God. Bring your friends! 🥤🤩🙌

The rest of the month, middle and high school students will have opportunities to meet in small groups and attend outings together. We're excited to create more opportunities for students to connect, build friendships, and grow in faith.

What a Sunday at Midland Naz! We kept digging into our Worship Questions series with: “Why the Lord’s Supper?” Pastor Justin reminded us that communion is the one ritual Jesus Himself gave the Church. Something meant to unite us, not divide us.

And then we lived it out. Food Truck Sunday turned into a giant family meal where everyone had a place and everyone ate free. A picture of the open table Jesus invites us to.

This Sunday, we continued our series "Worship Questions" with a question Pastor Justin has been asked through the years: Why preach?

In the early church, preaching wasn’t primarily about giving people a weekly dose of information. The Greek word for “preach” is κηρύσσω (kērússō) means to proclaim, to herald or to announce good news. The message was simple and radical: Jesus is King. But somewhere along the way, the sermon became the center of the Sunday gathering.

And we may have another problem now: we’ve become really good at choosing voices that affirm us. In the age of the podcast, we can find a preacher who agrees with us, confirms what we already believe, makes us feel smart or mature, and tells us we’re doing just fine. We can call a sermon “good” because it made us feel good. But affirmation and transformation aren’t the same thing. Jesus didn’t call us to find someone who would tell us what we want to hear. He called us to follow Him—and following Jesus means being changed by Him.

Preachers are human. Sermons matter. Teaching matters. But a preacher can’t transform you. A sermon can’t transform you. Only Jesus can. That’s why we gather.
Not simply to hear a sermon. Not simply to complete a worship service. Not simply to leave feeling affirmed. We gather to encounter Jesus and to become more like Him. And maybe that’s the better question to ask when we walk out the doors:
“Did I like what I heard?” or “Am I becoming more like Jesus?” We’re going with the second one.

And this Sunday, we’ll keep asking "Worship Questions" as we take on another one: Why the Lord’s Supper? 🤔🥖🍷

This Sunday we had the joy of dedicating baby Jace!

His parents made a commitment to raise him with faith at the center of his life, and we made a commitment as his church family to come alongside them, to pray for him, love him, encourage his family, and help create a community where Jace can grow up knowing Jesus.

Raising kids in faith takes a village and we’re grateful to be a part of Jace’s village. Welcome to the MidNaz family, Jace! 🩵⛪️
