Rather than constantly striving to force outcomes, coming to the altar often requires us to pause, submit, and watch God fulfill His promises in His timing. Submitting to God's plan is frequently more productive than seizing what lies before us in our own strength.

The obstacles that pull our focus away from God are rarely obvious or wicked sins, but often good, normal things that distract our hearts from what is best. When we allow good things to consume all our attention, they numb our spiritual awareness and steal God's full promise for our lives.

Surrendering to God generally touches three core areas we hold control over: our time, our talent, and our treasure. Giving up our personal agenda for His plan requires daily choosing to use those resources to advance His Kingdom and bless others.

Being a living sacrifice means taking your everyday, ordinary life—your eating, sleeping, working, and walking around life—and placing it before God as your true act of worship. When we fix our attention on God instead of conforming to the culture, He changes us from the inside out.
