“God's time is always near. He set the North Star in the heavens; He gave me the strength in my limbs; He meant I should be free.” (Harriet Tubman, 1859)

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth with the African American community and the entire nation. As believers, we follow a Lord and Savior who proclaimed: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free...” (Luke 4:18) Just as in 1865, there is something to celebrate, and there is also more work to be done: let’s continue to pray for justice, celebrate freedom, and proclaim, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,” Amen!
