A message from our Congregation

Middleburg Heights Community Church is a very friendly congregation who would invite you to join us in calling this your church home. We are an active congregation that reaches out in worship and service as we teach and preach the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We are a good mix of active retired people and younger families with children of all ages. The thing we all have in common is our devotion and love for God and the desire to serve his church. We also have a great love for Middleburg Heights Community Church and wish to see its ministry continue to grow and prosper. We offer many opportunities to become involved in our church from our inspirational Christian education program to our mission outreach activities to participation in one of our choirs. We feel that we truly have a wonderful ministry at this church and want to invite you to discover all the great things this church has to offer. If you are in the area, we sincerely hope that you stop by to worship with us on Sunday morning. May God bless you

An Opening
September 13: 16th Sunday after Pentecost
What happens when there seems to be no way forward? This Sunday, we gather around one of the Bible’s most dramatic moments, the parting of the Red Sea, and consider the openings God creates when all we can see are obstacles. We’ll also bring together water collected from our summer travels and bless it as the water that will welcome people into our church family through baptism in the year ahead. Come ready to remember where we’ve been, celebrate where we are, and trust the openings still ahead.
Scripture: Exodus 14:19-25

What’s Love Got to Do with It?
Everything! Paul tells us that love is the fulfillment of God’s law, but what does that kind of love actually look like? This Sunday, we’ll look at Jesus’ example of love in action and consider what it means for us to ensure love is not just a feeling, but a way of living. Join us as we explore what love has to do with following Jesus.

Scripture: Romans 13:8-10; Matthew 18:15-20

14th Sunday after Pentecost
August 30: The Christian’s Handbook

What does it actually look like to live as a follower of Jesus? This Sunday, we turn to Romans 12:9-21, where Paul offers what sounds a little like a “Christian’s handbook”, a practical guide for living out our faith through genuine love, hospitality, compassion, forgiveness, and peace. These aren't always easy instructions, especially when relationships are complicated or the world gives us plenty of reasons to respond with anger. Join us as we explore what it means to move beyond simply believing in the way of Jesus and begin putting that way into practice.

Scripture: Romans 12:9-21

What Proceeds from the Heart
Message from the 13th Sunday after Pentecost 2026

This Sunday, we study Matthew 15:10-28 and one of Jesus' most challenging encounters. A woman who stands outside the religious and cultural boundaries of Jesus' world refuses to accept that those boundaries should keep her from God's mercy. What happens when we are willing to listen to someone who challenges what we thought we knew? And what might God be trying to teach us through the people we least expect? Join us as we explore a story about faith, courage, and the possibility of having our hearts, and even our understanding of God's love, changed.

What if the Bible wasn’t meant to be read with fear, but with curiosity?

Our Adult Faith Journey group is kicking off a new book study this Sunday, August 23, with Inspired by Rachel Held Evans. This book invites us to explore the different genres of Scripture—law, poetry, prophecy, gospel—and discover how each speaks uniquely to our lives.

It’s a guide for those who want to move beyond surface-level readings into deeper, more honest engagement with the text. Questions are welcome. Doubts are allowed. Curiosity is the key.

To every student heading back to school this week—whether you’re starting kindergarten, beginning college, or returning to lifelong learning:

May you find teachers who challenge you and friends who support you. May you have the courage to ask hard questions, the humility to admit when you don’t know, and the kindness to extend grace to those who stumble.

May you remember that your worth is not measured by grades, test scores, or popularity. You are deeply loved, inherently valuable, and capable of great things. Go gently, learn boldly, and never forget you don’t have to face it alone.

And to the teachers: Our prayers are with you all. 📚✨

Our Sunday went slightly sideways, but we still gathered for worship, prayer, praise, blessings, and celebration. Due to a family emergency, our pastor could not be with us, so this service is missing Pastor Leila's leadership and message. That didn't stop the back-to-school blessings for our students and teachers during the Message for the Young at Heart, nor did it stop us joyfully accepting four new people into our faith family as members! This video shows these two happy moments in our overall service.

There is a special kind of courage in saying, “I belong here.”

This Sunday, we celebrate several people taking the next step in their spiritual journeys by joining Middleburg Heights Community UCC as new members. Joining a church family is a leap of faith—not because everything is figured out, but because they’ve chosen to walk forward in curiosity, community, and grace.

Whether you’re deconstructing old beliefs, returning after a long absence, or finding faith for the first time, there is space for you here. No perfect answers required. Just an open heart.

Welcome to the family. ❤️
