West, Menomonie, WI 54751 The North American Lutheran Church confesses:

The Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe.

1. Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through whose life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation.

2. The proclamati

on of God’s message to us as both Law and Gospel is the Word of God, revealing judgment and mercy through word and deed, beginning with the Word in creation, continuing in the history of Israel, and centering in all its fullness in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

3. The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the written Word of God. Inspired by the Holy Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ. Through them the Holy Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world.

Obedience to Christ is often difficult because it may bring rejection, suffering, and persecution rather than the love and approval we naturally desire. Yet Jesus promises a far greater reward: those who remain faithful and do not deny Him in this life will be acknowledged by Him before the Father in the life to come.

God takes care of us as a shepherd cares for every need of his sheep. He does not do this for a little while, then forget about us. His love is constant and he is faithful from one generation to the next. This is not conditional, for God is good to us because of his goodness, not ours.

Because Jesus, the Good Shepherd, cares for his sheep, even those sheep who are lost, he provides shepherds for them. These shepherds are sent far and wide throughout the world, to find his sheep and provide for them. These shepherds need not be concerned what to say to the lost sheep, for the Spirit will fill them and give them his words, so that the Father speaks through them on his behalf.

The people of Ephraim and Judah have, once again, placed their trust in earthly kings and false idols. Hosea urges the people to turn from their ways, repent of their sinful idolatry, and return to the Lord their God. For it is only in God and his promises that the people will find true comfort.

Jesus is criticized for reaching out to Matthew and calling him as one of his disciples. Jesus turns heads when he goes to Matthew's home to have a meal with him. The Pharisees are ready to entrap Jesus. Why would Jesus have anything to do with such riffraff like tax collectors and other sinners? Jesus turns the tables on the Pharisees, telling them that all are in need of his grace and mercy.

Matthew 28:19 records Jesus’ command to His disciples after His resurrection: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” In this verse, Jesus commissions His followers to bring the Gospel to the world, baptizing people in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and teaching them to follow His teachings. It highlights the Church’s mission to share Christ’s saving message with people of every nation and culture.
