We want to start a new series of informational social media posts called Feast Day Focus. We will feature certain saints/feast days and tell you a little more about them. We begin our series today with Saint Romuald whose feast day is today, June 19.

Have you ever stopped to think about how much social interaction is a good amount when it comes to our church life? We aren’t talking about social media here; we are talking about honest to goodness interpersonal relationships…conversations, meals together, praying together as a congregation…that sort of thing. Romuald thought about it, and he decided that the life of a hermit was the life for him!

When he was around 20 years old, Romuald became a monk. Life at the monastery was still not a strict enough lifestyle for him, so he got permission from the abbot to go out and live as a hermit. During more than a decade of intense religious study while living in prayerful solitude, Romuald developed his own monastic lifestyle, finding a balance between solitude and community. Then after being given a piece of land, he built multiple hermitages, marking the beginnings of a new form of monasticism called the Camaldolese Hermits of Mount Corona. These monks each lived in their own hermitages in solitude and silence but gathered daily in a shared chapel for prayer.

Your calling might not be to go live a silent life as a hermit, but periods of quiet contemplation are important in our walk with God, especially in this loud and often too-busy world we live in. See if you can make some today to do as Saint Romuald did. Find a quiet moment in a quiet space and sit in prayer with the Lord.

In honor of the 250th Anniversary of the United States, the Catholic Bishops of our nation have voted to consecrate our country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This act of faith invites us to place our nation, our communities, and our families under the loving care and protection of Christ.

In our diocese Bishop David P. Talley, M.S.W., J.C.D. will celebrate the Mass of Consecration on Thursday, June 11, at 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. All parishioners are warmly invited to attend this special Mass and join Catholics throughout our diocese in prayer for our nation.

At Holy Rosary, we will unite ourselves to this consecration by praying the Prayer of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the end of the 8:15 a.m. Mass on Friday, June 12, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

“There is in the Sacred Heart the symbol and express image of the infinite love of Jesus Christ which moves us to love in return.” says Pope Leo XIII, and the Church has deemed that we ought to recognize that infinite love by our own small acts of love, penance, and reparation. The First Friday devotion is one of these comparatively small acts.

Join us this Friday, June 5th for Adoration and Mass with Sacred Heart Devotions and Benediction.
