Our Gifts of Hope Outreach Ministry continues to put faith into action by serving others in our community. Recently, our ministry prepared meals for the St. Vincent de Paul food mission, helping provide nourishment and hope to those in need.

Through compassionate outreach, our volunteers lend a helping hand to ease the burdens of neighbors facing challenges with food, rent, utilities, and other essential needs.

Our local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts have been busy helping to keep our campus looking good! They recently worked on the preschool playground raking mulch and also cleaned up the parking lot and the sidewalk in front of the church after the storms last weekend. They definitely earned the snow cones that they had after all of their hard work! Many thanks to the Scouts!

Tomorrow is the feast of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Please join us for vigil Mass today, August 14, at 6:00 pm or tomorrow, August 15, for daily Mass at 6:15 or 8:15 am.

The doctrine of the Assumption was dogmatically defined by Pope Pius XII (A.D. 1876-1958) on November 1, 1950, in the Apostolic Constitution 𝘔𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘴 𝘋𝘦𝘶𝘴 by exercising papal infallibility. He states: “𝘉𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵, 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘈𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘢𝘶𝘭, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘖𝘸𝘯 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘞𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘨𝘮𝘢: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘝𝘪𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯, 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩, 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘥, 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯.”

Pope Pius XII deliberately left open the question of whether Mary suffered death or was directly assumed into heaven at the end of her earthly life. In 𝘔𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘴 𝘋𝘦𝘶𝘴 (item 39) he referred to the “𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘦” as in Genesis 3:15 and to “𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩” as in the Letters of St. Paul as a scriptural basis for the dogmatic definition. Therefore, Mary’s Assumption is the fulfillment of God’s promise of the bodily resurrection which awaits all the baptized at the end of time.

What a week we are having at Vacation Bible School! The kids are learning so much about Jesus and the Catholic faith. They even had a scavenger hunt to find items such as the ambo, a crucifix, and the baptismal font. Many thanks to all of our volunteers and to Fr. Felix for his important role as a Roman soldier and for helping with the scavenger hunt.
